Ovi Store Sales Over Device Types For January 2010

Tamoggemon Ltd., the company behind LocaNote (http://store.ovi.com/content/17013) and TouchCalc (http://store.ovi.com/content/23527) applications comes up with their sales percentage report per device type for the period of January 1 - 31, 2010. The figures in brackets are last month’spercentage:

Nokia N97: 54.40% (46.50%)
Nokia 5800 XM: 36.50% (40.60%)
Nokia 5530 XM: 6.80% (6.20%)
Nokia 5230 XM: 1.50% (3.10%)
Unknown: 0.75% (0.00%)
Nokia X6: 0.00% (3.20%)

One can clearly see that the main sale getters remain the Nokia N97 and the XM5800. Lower-end touchscreen devices currently do not amount for significant moved produce – this can be due to their owners being less willing to invest, but can also be considered a pointer to lack of device distribution.

Whats interesting about this report was that, Nokia X6 seemed to loss its percentage point from last month gaining zero sales figure this month. Does this mean that the phone is not selling well at the moment?

Regarding Sony Ericsson: we originally planned to offer you data from SE in this report. However, getting content into the store takes so long (25 days and counting) that we don’t expect to have any meaningful data till March (aka 10th of April).

Create A Truly Customized Music Experience With Playlist DJ

If you listen to music on your mobile device, be prepared to hear it in a whole new way when Playlist DJ starts to rock out on your mobile device.

This mobile application for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices (like Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) uses profiling techniques to identify multiple variables associated with each individual music track; and those profiles are then compared with other music on your device to bring you a customized playlist of songs that are tailored precisely to your mood. Best of all, the app is free in Ovi Store (www.store.ovi.com) until October 31, 2009!

Nokia developed Playlist DJ together with a Danish company called Syntonetic. The UI for the app was developed with input from what was then the Live Category inside Nokia, and Nokia Design.

“At the time we were creating the app, the most important goal was to make it as simple as possible to use, so that anyone – no matter what language they speak – could pick it up and start playing with it,” said Claus Christensen, User Experience Manager in SU Design and Consumer Experiences.

Playlist DJ is designed for interaction
The application features four colorful sliders that individuals can move up and down to create new playlists. With each slider, you control just how much you want of each specific setting: Joy, Passion, Anger, and Tempo. So, if you crank the sliders up to the top, you get a list of songs that is really joyful, passionate, angry - and super fast! (The Help section within the App - under the Options menu - gives more detail about how it works, but it is more fun to just start fiddling with the levers and see the results for yourself.)

These sliders are the front-end of the deep-profiling process, which is made up of 34 different features including six basic moods as well as 15 different musical genres. The profiling also considers and identifies special vocals and choir characteristics, as well as distinct instrument characteristics. Special treatment is also given to sound, beat and tempo characteristics for each music track that is profiled.



Playlist DJ made its big debut during Nokia World this year, and at the time the app received a lot of useful feedback. Unlike other music apps which start on a personal computer and must be transferred to a mobile device, Playlist DJ is the first one to analyze music tracks that are already on the mobile device. The first time you start the application, the initial music profiling may take some time, but it is all done in the background. And, as soon as the first track within your collection has been profiled, you can start using the app.

Adding more tracks to Playlist DJ improves the experience
To date, Syntonetic has “profiles” of more than four million music tracks, and tens of thousands of new tracks are analyzed and added to the database each day.

The more tracks that you add to your own collection, the better the experience of the application becomes, as it broadens the scope of selections for creating new playlists. In addition to creating playlists based on a specific mood, the app can be used to generate playlists based on the profiles of individual songs, too.

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Chronicle, Must Have App's Part 1

I've been around my Nokia 5530 XpressMusic for quite sometime now and within those weeks, I can say that I have downloaded and installed tons of application softwares to enhance the phones performance but not all came out useful for me so most of them were axed down after a few hours or days leaving only the elite functional ones that I'm about to feature.

1. Nokia Messaging - perhaps the most used application of all that every time I open my phone, I go directly to this app. Nokia Messaging is a client that mobilizes consumers email on a Nokia phone. It enables users to quickly set up, access, and use their email on their Nokia devices through a service that is optimized for mobile email.

Capabilities of the email client;
- Automatic delivery of email using the IMAP idle protocol (Common term for this is Push Email, the very reason why I love this app!)
- Support for Yahoo! Mail, Google Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Ovi Mail, and POP/IMAP email accounts
- Support for Google Apps, Yahoo! Small Business, and other vanity domain email accounts
- Support for up to 10 email accounts
- Support for HTML email
- Available on 10+ Nokia S60 devices and localized in 20+ languages
- Support for subfolders in IMAP email accounts
- Easy email setup using only an email address and password for almost all ISPs
- Efficient data usage
- Intuitive client interface navigation built around top mobile email functions

This is not installed out of the box, so you need to download this from Nokia Ovi Store and install to the phone. There's big catch though, the client have encountered problems with the phone which I haven't experience with my N82. Oftentimes the phone to crash and reboots, much worse it becomes insensitive leaving me with no choice but to rest the phone. To be very honest, I have remove and reinstall this client 12x now, maybe my problem was isolated or maybe not, ans that Nokia have mess up something in between that's why it becomes to much for the phone to handle. I've been twitting about this problem for quite sometime now and so far I haven't receive any solutions to address this. But then its still my most used app in the phone so its impossible to delete this.
2. Gravity - the first fully-featured and native Twitter client for the S60 platform. It supports multiple accounts, Twitter Search, Laconica, Ping.fm, posting of pictures via MobyPicture & TwitPic and wraps everything into a gorgeous looking interface. This I would say is second to my most use application on the phone being a big twitter addict. Things I like on this app, nice looking interface, very interactive, supports kinetic scrolling on the 5530 XpressMusic.

I also like the bookmark page, it kinda reminds me of the Fast Dial add on application on the Firefox browser making it more interactive and fun.

Nokia Ovi Store Icon, Get Yours Here!

If your one of those who wasn't fortunate enough to find an Ovi Store software client anywhere within the store or in the Nokia download page no matter how many times you refresh the download app or browse the store using the web browser, worry no more, I found a link that could gave you the elusive application icon you've been longing to see as part of your menu list.

Aside from the fact that it can give you a shortcut icon to the store, accessing the store via this client will gave you a more enticing and eye candy interface far more better than the mobile page. It can also gave you a savvy browsing advantage thus, everyone is advice to grab one. I was wondering why Nokia made such a fuzz in having this Icon intricate to find. They keep on telling people that it can be downloaded inside the store via the web browser but it's just not there.
