Asha's on the rise!

Two months from its announcement at the Nokia World 2011, the Asha family surmounts in full scale invading the midrange mobilephone market in the Philippines. Available nationwide for more than 2 weeks now is Nokia Asha 303 Touch and Type that cost PhP6,450.00 and just recently, the Nokia Asha 200 that cost PhP3,500.00 on retail stores. Both phones are on are now up for grabs across the country on different color variants.

The Nokia Asha 303 lands second of my list as the best mobilephones for 2011 being no less than the most value mobilephone handset in the market at the moment. For its affordable price, Nokia manage to squeeze in powerful specs and features such as the 1Ghz processor, 2.6inches TFT capacitive touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, WLAN, 3.2MP camera, MP3 and MP4 player, popular games among others. Its almost a smartphone "per se" with only a few feature missing like multitasking and document viewer, other than that its the most outstanding smartphone on its class. Do I need to mention that the phones design is one of my favorite as well? Without a single doubt, this phone is one of my most recommended mobilephone of all time.

The Nokia 200 on the other hand is the first QWERTY Dual SIM phone from Nokia. It cannot be denied that Dual SIM devices are now becoming a mainstream with more and more people using more than just one SIM. The phone simply completes the crave of this users who prefer to enjoy two worlds at a time under one simple device that can do intelligent stuffs. On the specs sheet and feature beside its very affordable price are the 2.4inches, 256 Thousand color resolution screen, 2MP camera, Nokia Browser with Adobe Flash Lite, Bluetooth, Stereo FM with RDS, MP3 and MP4 player, popular games among others.

Asha is on the rise! Be part of the trend.

Nokia C2-00, Preview

Got a new device to tinker ladies and gentlemen, the Nokia C2-00 Easy Swap Dual Sim phone that I brought to replace my sold Nokia 101. I have nothing negative against the 101, in fact I'm very satisfied with it, its just that somebody took the interest to buy the phone more than the original price so I took the opportunity. It will also give me a chance to buy another Dual Sim phone to review and share about on the blog.

First impression, the silver white variant of the phone is of simplistic beauty. It doesn't have much aesthetics to make it look shiny and attractive but its minimalistic design make it a stand out. The phone is wrapped in plastic, a glossy one in front and a regular cheap battery cover at the back, even so, the phone still feels sturdy to hold. The plastic also made the phone lightweight and thin.

The T9 keypad was also covered with a glossy plastic, it feels comfortable to press and has a good tactile feedback but I preferred the rubber matted plastic on the Nokia 101. I'm not comfortable with the keypad design, its not segregated well enough like that of the 101 and the glossy plastic make it slippery to the thumb.

The phone runs the Symbian 40 6th Edition but unlike the past phone I've use with the same operating system (Nokia C2-03), it doesn't show the signal strength on the menu page or on any running application, making me wonder if I still have a signal when I'm writing SMS or when accessing SIM services for reloading, the Nokia 101 shows this all throughout making me regret my decision to sell it.

The phone doesn't sound as loud as the Nokia 101 or X1-01. The company have trimmed down this specific feature to give way to other important technical components that the aforementioned phones lacked like the VGA camera, Bluetooth, among others.

Well, this will be it for now. I will be featuring a video hands-on of the phone as will as a full review in the coming days. Stay tuned! For the meantime, enjoy the following images of my newest business phone. (For the complete Nokia C2-00 Specs, CLICK HERE)

Business Reloader!

I’m feeling businessman like at the moment that is why I’m planning to put up a reloading station both Globe Telecom and Smart Communications. I’m already stripping out retailers SIM’s around the metro and also phone(s) that I will be using with it. I need at least two phones aside from my primary/private phone because I will be using two different networks that have to stay active all the times. This would have been the best time to buy the C2-00, the very first Nokia dual SIM (dual standby) phone but I doubt if it will become available as early as August here in the Philippines.

I’m planning to buy at least one phone since I have two at the moment, my Nokia N82 which will be my primary phone and the Nokia 2300 Classic that I swapped for the Nokia 2220 Slide. The phone will also be an entry level one being use only for reloading. Tons of cheap refurbished Nokia phones floods in the local market at the moment so I might buy one of them. Did you know that you can still buy Nokia 3310 here in my area for PhP500 or about $10 only? Yep, we have it here, and knowing how durable this phone is, this will definitely stand tall and my best option to purchase.

I could also go for a specialized retailer SIM’s that carries all networks. I’ve seen one in a business fair that I attended in Manila a year ago but I doubt if they are sold here in my province. As far as I can remember, the process of reloading this SIM’s are complicated being a third party consortium so I might stay with direct retailing.

Anyways, it will still be a long way ahead, I’m still waiting for my money to be released before I could invest it, as of the moment, I’m still looking for the best alternative. If only Nokia could release the C1-00 earlier, I wouldn’t have any problem at all.

Finally! Dual and 2-in-1 Sim phones From Nokia

Nokia finally unveiled its very first Dual Sim capable phone under the CSeries mobile, the Nokia C2 and its first 2-in-1 Sim capable phone the Nokia C1. (Clone China phones have this feature for quite a while now.)

The Nokia C2 features a dual SIM with dual standby capability that keeps both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery and the second is 'hot-swappable', a feature unique to Nokia which means it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.

Nokia C2 also offers a wide range of information covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment via Nokia's Ovi Life Tools, as well as the email account for the developing world, Ovi Mail. In addition to Ovi Mail, people's favorite consumer email and chat accounts can be pushed direct to the phone via Nokia Messaging. Listening to music is simple with the FM radio and music player, with a massive amount of music storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB with standard headphone jack. The standard flashlight - often someone's only means of bright light - is paired with a vivid color screen.

The Nokia C1 trio (C1-00) is priced at EUR 30 before taxes and subsidies and is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a 2-in-1 double SIM solution. "By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM," said Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia. "This is a great added convenience feature considering the low price of the phone."

Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the world where access to electricity is sometimes limited. The standard flashlight - often someone's only means of bright light - is paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack, meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about convenience.
