Certified Nokia World 2010 Virtual Attendee

Hours before the Nokia World 2010 event, a DHL package arrived in my doorstep from WOMWorld Nokia, a big surprise I would say because they did not send any eMail as they usually do when packages are sent on the way.

What’s more boggling about it was the stuffs inside a well printed black bag, there was a T-shirt with a Nokia World 2010 event printed, a Nokia Virtual ID badge, a the 3D glass, and an instruction to check my email for surprising details on the day of the event. I was really curious of the 3D glass because it would mean something big is going on and that they want me to be part of a unique experience.

And yes… it was huge because it came out to be an all access backstage pass that only we, the chosen few can access. A big thank you to WOMWorld Nokia, it was a twisted blasting experience! They really took an effort to prepare something for us, big hug to everyone in WOMWorld!

So what was the backstage all about, hhmmm? As much as I would love to share every possible info in here, I live this up for myself. As wicked as it maybe, I want everyone else to wonder and figure out what’s going on behind the backstage door. Haha!

Then again, thank you WOMWorld Nokia! Please include me in the waiting lists for Symbian^3 trial devices! I would love to try them all specially the C6-01 and N8. ;)

Thoughts, Nokia World 2010

Hours before the mobilephone event of the year, I posted an article about the possible scenario after Nokia World 2010, will it be a hit or a miss, will it shocked or frustrate… 2 days after all the chaos, buzz, intrigue, silent confrontation, etc., I could say that it say that its 80:20, 80 being shocked and 20 being frustrated.

Hit Shock

- It’s fair to say that Nokia did an excellent job in the overall presentation, the opening video salvo that combines 3 huge screens showing the direction of the company and its role in the future, that was breathtaking! If I was amaze by that video on a livestream, how much more if I’m in that room, it would perhaps be a spectacular experience. Coming up with supporting videos, mini movies and images that were captured or filmed in their phones was an excellent move, those were the fruits of hardwork and dedications from the people behind the event, they were more than prepared and I applaud that.

- FYI information’s and tidbits being announced every now and then like the number of downloads on Ovi Store per hours for instance, these are revelations that were unnoticed by the media who were blinded with the hype caused by competitors. Having all this info’s known, I think competitors will have to think twice before boasting anything.

- Nokia coming up with a very competitive powerful smartphones is a big hit specially that it targets areas where the company is strongest. The business and enterprise market with the Nokia E7, the ultimate business smartphone, the mid-tier market with the Nokia C7, the stylish, superfast and supersocial phone and last but not the least, the Nokia C6-01, the cheapest and the best value smartphone in the market at the moment. I am confident to say that these phones are the strongest in their bracket and I congratulate Nokia research team for a job well done.

- ClearBlack display (CBD) technology is a dope! It made the competitors screen look dull and boring. If you try to compare say the HTC phone hands on devices posted on youTube after their launching event and Nokia phones with CBD, the difference is remarkable.

- And speaking about HTC, the silent confrontation between HTC and Nokia is a big hit, it showed the ingenuity of Nokia people in crushing the competitors in their dirty game. When HTC send a bus to the event location of Nokia to fetch press people, red balloons and press kit with nasty stuff inside flew around and given to people who transferred to the HTC event… classic move, unexpected and hilarious!

- Nokia showing big love to developers is a huge hit. These people were the future of the company and their cooperation is critically important to their success.

- Coming up with a service program that helps small businesses around the world market promote their products is a huge hit, not only that it will create a healthy market environment, it will help Nokia stabilize their mapping service.

Mess Frustration

- Nokia failing to address the Operating System attack frustrates. With Apple and Android catching up in the smartphone market, it would have been best if Nokia did its best in coming up with an OS that will outshine both. It would have been best if Symbian^4or Meego was fast track. The Symbian^3 start up notion was okay, everything starts somewhere but it would have been better if Nokia will bullishly strive for Symbian^4 or Meego.

- I would have loved to see more add on features for Symbian^3 like the live wallpapers and 3D effects all over. What Symbian^3 lacks against iOS or Android is only these features, how hard could that be? I believe this could be enhance on Symbian^3, maybe a 3rd party application that could be installed to bring this feature to the system?

- I would have loved to see Nokia announcing more Ovi services or expanding their existing services to other countries. Ovi Unlimited Music maybe in the Philippines, paid apps to be offered in the local Ovi Store portal, Movies being sold on Ovi among others.

- I would have loved to see E7 with a 1Ghz processor, it might not be as obvious but the phone logs a bit. It’s not as fluid or as fast as the other high end phones. Yes it’s not marketed to be a geek’s dream phone but for business minded individual, but would it be better if it does?

So, how about you? What grade will you give to the recently concluded Nokia World 2010? Feel free to comment below!

Symbian^3 to the Power of 3 on Nokia World 2010

Perhaps the biggest buzz so far in Nokia World 2010, the unveiling of three additional smartphones in the Symbian^3 family verging on different segments, the Nokia E7 Communicator, the mid high end Nokia C7 and the midrange Nokia C6-01.

Nokia E7 Communicator is a solid business device, dubbed currently as the ultimate business smartphone, the phone boasts Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support, 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, which uses ClearBlack technology, something new in mobile phones and a Nokia proprietor for improved outdoor visibility, slide out four-row QWERTY keyboard, security features including business grade device lock and wipe functionality, secure intranet access and remote device management, connectivity and productivity prowess with support for Mail for Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft Share Point Server, free walk and drive navigation including premium guides from the likes of Lonely Planet and Via Michelin. Who wouldn’t drool over this business features?

The Nokia E7 also boasts a good entertainment set up, 8MP camera capable of shooting and editing HD Quality videos and sounds, LED flash, 16GB of on-board storage, HDMI connection and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound. It also has a deafening 18 days of standby time and up to 9 hours of talktime and a retail price of €495 before taxes and subsidies, that would be more or less PhP30,000.

The Nokia C7 is a stylish device with a solid social networking support, 3.5-inch AMOLED capacitative touchscreen with the ClearBlack technology, 8GB on board storage, 8MP camera with HD 720p video capability and Dual LED flash, free global walk and drive navigation and a digital compass, unimaginable 27 days of standby time among the rest of the Symbian^3 perks. Now that what we call a energy efficient mobilephone! The phone will be sold at around €335 before taxes and subsidies, that would be PhP19,000 more or less.
Then last and the best, Nokia C6-01, the best value all around phone in the midrange arena. The phone carries an 8-megapixel camera with HD 720p video capability and Dual LED flash, 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen sporting the Nokia ClearBlack technology among other Symbian^3 perks and features. The C6-01 will support microSD up to 32GB and can lasts up to 17 days standby time. All three phones are expected to be release before the end of 2010.

Nokia World 2010 London, Will it Shocked or Frustrate?

Good Heavens/Bloody Hell Mate, Nokia World 2010 London is up in about 6 hours! I suppose the mobilephone enthusiasts, developers, bloggers and competitors are pretty excited now as to what Nokia will offer. I am, excited, a bit, well knowing the leaks and hearsay's going around before the event, its subtle to think that I already knew a big part of it.

Say, the E7 will be introduce, the Symbian^3 powered QWERTY phone with 1GHz processor and 8MP camera, the C7, another Symbian^3 phone with 8MP camera, a cut down version to the expensive Nokia N8, Symbian^4 and Meego teaser videos, the fighting back theme, the Ovi Music which incorporates Music store to Ovi, etc. Its like foiled surprises which would have been avoided if and only if Nokia took the necessary precautions.

I am optimistic thought that the event will be huge and will induce excitement back to Nokia. I am hoping that they will introduce and enhance more services to a worldwide scale like Ovi payment system, maybe Ovi games with live community picking up the remnants of the NGage service, Ovi Movies, another version of Ovi files (the hip, easy and cool one), Ovi TV (DVBH-like), etc.

Far out expectation, integration of a live wallpaper on Symbian^3 and 3D graphic effects on the interface, Windows 7 on the music oriented X Series bulging up the intuitive Zune UI taking to the account that the new Nokia CEO comes from Microsoft, Green phones that defies expectation with state of the art design, phones with screen display that goes beyond Super AMOLED of Samsung and iPhone's Retina Display, etc. Phew! that's a lot to wish for but I'm crossing my finger. Surprise us Nokia!

I should get a ticket to Nokia World 2010 because..

I’m desperate! I believe I have joined every competition that Nokia have thrown just to be part of the momentous event.

Remember this?
The Makemyapp contest that gives a Nokia N8 and trip Nokia World 2010 as prize? Well I joined the competition and campaign wholeheartedly for my application idea so it could make it through the shortlist; barging my friends, asking my Billboard_Music, _NokiaN97, Nokia N82 and Scratchepad followers on Twitter, Friendster and Facebook to vote, etc. It was an intense campaign because not only that I will get a chance to participate in the Nokia World 2010 and won a Nokia N8 but rather a chance also to make a difference. The application was about Green Shopping with a purpose of giving people information/guide/help in buying/choosing products that are environment friendly. But unfortunately it didn’t make it to the final cut thus denying it’s opportunity to be created as an application, but my dream cannot be shattered by just a mere competition because I will to building a website about it and perhaps a mobile application in the future. It’s all about making a difference!

and this?

The video that I created as an entry to the #Nokiaworld competition of Ovi Blog. It took me a day and a half to create the video having a very few knowledge on video making/editing/recording. It was more of learning the basics when I created it that is why I’m very proud that I manage to come up with one. It only proves that there is no harm in trying and doing your best to attain want you want. Anyways, Congratulations to the winners!

This is my very last chance that’s why I am not hoping for anything anymore. I just want everyone to know that if there’s somebody who's gone to hell and back just to be part of Nokia World 2010… That would be me!
