A Waging War; Nokia N86 8MP or Nokia N97, Part 2

The struggle lives on as June 2009 draws near, which phone to buy as my next upgrade to my omnipotent Nokia N82. Is it the camera centric Nokia N86 8MP or the touched slider QWERTY Nokia N97? Booth phones are the best in each segment and as to which segment shall I be wanting to be part next is very hard to choose. If only I can buy booth of them, I would, but surely I cant due to monetary constraints.

I will be dissecting each and every aspect and features of the two phone and grade them from 1 to 100, this is for me to have a clear picture base on each phones strength and weakness. Which phone garners the most number of votes will win.

Display And User Interface:

N86 8MP has a screen size of 2.6", quite a boast here coming from a 2.4" N82 screen size, 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) resolution, my N82 has a 240 x 320, 16.7 million colors, nothing new, Active Matrix OLED technology, I have been wanting to try this screen technology since I've read a lot of positive raves about it being able to display surreal colors, Brightness control, absent on my N82 but I uploaded a 3rd party software called Light Control and does the same and I'm fun of using it, Orientation Sensor and Ambient Light Detector.
Grade: 90.50

N97 on the other hand has a 3.5" screen size which is a very huge increase in screen size from my current phone, perfect in watching YouTube videos, Movies among others. 360 x 640 pixels (QVGA) resolution, another massive changed, 16.7 million colors, nothing new. Bright LCD, nothing new again but this screen last longer compared to OLED which will dry up in time. Proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
Grade: 95.50

Power Management

N86 8MP has a BL-5K 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery to consume, a power boast plus the fact that it has a power saver display screen, a big time extender. Maximum Talk Time for GSM, up to 6.3 hours, for WCDMA up to 3.9 hours and for VoIP over WLAN up to 11 hours. Maximum Standby Time for GSM is up to 315 while for WCDMA up to 275 hours. Maximum Browsing Time with packet data, up to 7 hours. Video playback time (maximum), VGA 30fps up to 3.0 hours while QCIF 15fps is up to 5.5 hours. Video recording time (maximum), up to 2 hours. Maximum Video call time, 2.5 hours. Music playback time (maximum), up to 25 hours and finally maximum Music playback time via FM transmitter is up to 18 hours. Quite an impressive long list here.
Grade: 97.50

N97 has a standard battery, BL-4L 1500 mAh Li-Ion, another power boast from just a 1050 mAh power capacity of my N82. Maximum Talk Time for GSM, 6.4 hours while using WCDMA, maximum time reaches to as much as 5.2 hours. Maximum Stand By Time for GSM, 430 hours while for WCDMA, 480 hours. Music Playback reaches up to 37 hours while the Maximum Video Playback lasts for about 4.5 hours. Quite good enough here thinking that the phone has a widescreen that needs to be lighted up the whole time. The video playback rather is rather enough also knowing that most of the movies as of the moment last for 2.5 hours only, just enough to run a full movie.
Grade: 96.50

Design:

N86 8MP as of the moment comes in White and Indigo Black. The screen was embodied by a shinny hard glass surface surrounded by a metal railing on the side. I find the design very attractive and futuristic, simple but classy. It somewhat looks like a single eyed robot with minute bottoms on its lower part and a sliding parts either up or down, something unique and out of this world. I always have a soft part of things that looks different, that why I like N82.
Grade: 96.00

N97 on the other hand has the same design to that of N86 and also comes out in White and Black. The screen is covered with a soft plastic, this is to give buoyancy to the touch sensitive screen but the side is still surrounded by metal railing on the side giving it an edgy look. The front interface is covered mostly by the screen with a modern design, somewhat futuristic and techy yet clean and businesslike.
Grade: 97.9
