Nokia Bagged Seven Awards For Outstanding Design Achievement In 2012

People are always after the latest and greatest technology that powers smartphones. Each year, millions of purchases are made to upgrade to the latest smartphones. However, technology is just a part of the reason that fuels the mobile crowd to upgrade their gadgets. Design is also and important factor. It’s not just the design of looking good but design being functional for everyday use.

Who gets to judge the greatest designs in the world? One of the prestigious awarding bodies is the International Forum (iF) Design based in Hannover, Germany. For the last 60 years, they have assembled an authoritative body composed of experts to judge a slew of products to recognize design excellence and award merit fordesign functionality.

Here is a list of what iF Design judged to be creative and bold and wowed the jury:

Lumia 800 and Lumia 920

Despite its launch two years ago, the Nokia Lumia 800 still resonates a visually stunning look to this day with its sleek form and curved 3.7” AMOLED screen. The phone runs on the still relevant Windows Phone 7.5 OS and is powered by a 1.4 Ghz processor. The classy design is not just a visual delight; it also provides comfort when using the phone due to its thin form factor and solid engineering.

An improvement over its predecessor, the Nokia Lumia 920 continues to dazzle consumers and the iF alike. The use of vibrant colors and a slight curved back plate is both easy on the eyes and in the users hands. The comfort in design is both functional and attractive. It gives each phone a personality with the best innovative technology that measures up to how it is perceived. The Lumia 920 has a slightly bigger screen at 4.5” and runs on a 1.5 Ghz processor that backs the design with the latest and greatest on mobile technology.

Wireless Charging Plate

If science fiction authors, H.G. Wells and Jules Verne were alive today they would certainly be amazed by how far technology has progressed. These days, it is certainly obvious if a device is left alone near a wall socket – it requires charging among a mess of cables. With the advent of wireless charging, Nokia has paired color, function and design with these wireless charging plates. Mobile users do not have to worry about where to place their mobile phones for charging. Nowadays, one can just simply place the device on the wireless charging plate and your phone starts charging.

Bluetooth Headsets

For the better part of the last decade, wireless is no longer a buzzword. Connections made sans the wire makes mobile lifestyles easier and untangled. The iF awarded Nokia’s Bluetooth Headset BH-118 for its colorful and subtle design. Listening to music or having a conversation without worrying about the cables that may strangle you are no longer a concern. Absolute clarity is essential when listening and talking on your mobile device with crystal clear signal without interruption. The BH-118 makes it seem effortless with color and design that match your phone.

JBL PlayUp and JBL PowerUp

Portability and convenience is one of the core design goals of a mobile device. JBL recognizes what Nokia brings to the world of design and its no wonder this great accessory bagged another award from the iF Design awarding body. Form and functionality is very important for both companies so they have come up with two stylish products that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings. The JBL PlayUp is a portable speaker that has several colors to match the color of your phone. Additionally, the design echoes the best sound quality that JBL is known for and includes wireless transmission of music from phones to speakers. Great tonality, a solid bass and balanced treble makes Nokia phones a great music device you can easily bring around.

JBL PowerUp for Nokia is another result when great minds think alike. Besides piping music from a mobile phone, it also features a tap-play option when you place your phone on the speaker surface. Taking its cue from JBL PlayUp, it also features wireless charging while playing music. Simply placing the phone on the top surface charges the phone and the ability to play music continuously without cables is a very innovative idea that merges design and function in one product.

These seven innovative products from Nokia certainly made an impact on the International Forum Design 2012 jury.

Top 5 Most Read Articles of 2012: Double, Righteous, Lights and Everything in Between!

2012 is coming to an end ladies and gentlemen and one of the best way to cheer the departing year is to feature the best of the its best, the blogs most read articles.

Just like the trend in 2011, all articles that made it to the list were related to mobilephones, quite reasonable enough, having wrote almost 80% about it. I should consider balancing my articles for next year, the blog is not just about mobilephones, its about everything that life has to offer.

My written posts also shrink this year, my schedules were really getting hectic day by day specially that my law school gets tougher, but even so, I still manage to post 326 out of 364 days, not bad but it may get worst in 2013.

So back to the topic, which articles were the most viewed this year? Lets begin!

5. Conversations with Nokia Lumia 800, First Take

I posted this article in March 27, 2012 detailing part one of my three parts review of the Lumia 800 which Nokia Conversations lend me for trial, few weeks before its official release in the Philippines. The device was quite popular that time which in turn channeled a lot of page views but perhaps the main reason why the article earned so much attention was because the review was featured by Nokia Philippines in their official website alongside other review articles from top tech blogs and websites in the country. It was frantic then, I never thought anybody would take my reviews seriously. Up to now I still believed that they just made a serious mistake in featuring my review, like really!

4. Confirmed! Nokia Lumia 920 and 820's Philippine Release Date

Immensely popular, the least two words I can bests describe the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 since this article already made it as one of the the most read article of the year even if I only posted it 4 weeks ago! What more, the article even made it to #10 of the blog's all time view lists making the fastest climbing article of all racking down 3-4 year old ones in short span of time and breaking record views in unimaginable phase. The overwhelming page views came from search inquiries which would only mean that tens and hundreds of thousands were searching for the phones release date and maybe eagerly waiting to buy one. Its starling, very much unexpected.

3. Nokia Asha 200 Pep Talk Part 2, Software, Browser, eMail, Camera, Wrap Up

I brought this phone to serve as my business reloader device for teo of the country's leading telecom networks, but it gave me more than what I expected, a lot of blog visitors and page views via my review article on the phone. This also proves how popular the phone is besides the fact that its one of Nokia bestseller in 2012. As of the moment, I'm just glad that I bought the phone for myself.

2. Nokia 110, The Most Affordable Dual Sim Internet Device

I also brought this phone as my reloader device last June 2012 before the Nokia Asha 200 with the review article posted on the 29th of the same month. The phone was a fine one but it did not settled well enough for me as a perfect reloader device so I have to ditched it a week after. That was just me though, the phone rocks in popularity and the blog is riding along with it.

1. Nokia 101 Review, Basic and Staunch

The run away winner actually since the page view difference of this review post and that of  Nokia 110 was more than half. I posted the article February 2012 and since then, up to know the back links were still outrageous that it now scored #4 on the all time hit list and still growing. Who in the world wont be curious and attracted on this phone, its very affordable and well built and its the first Dual SIM running phone from Nokia. For the same reason as Nokia Asha 200 and Nokia 110, the phone serve as my reloader device but of the 3, I've used this the longest.

Well, their you go folks, the blog's most popular articles of 2012. As you might noticed, most of which are entry level Dual SIM phones and by reason of finding the person reloader device, well I guess I need continue this madness because its good for the blog. I already had my eyes on the new breeds of Nokia Dual Sim phones at the moment, lets see if they'll invade the top lists again next year. I'm also looking forward to the Nokia Lumia 920, the phone would definitely bring a lot more visitors to the blog as it begins to roll out internationally. Lets see how everything plays, 2013 is in 2 days.

Smart vs Globe: Which Telecom Company Offers the Best Lumia Launching Party?

Competition knows no boundary, from pitching its individual plan package for Lumia Windows Phones, now, the Philippines top two largest telecom networks are vying to give the loudest and the coolest launching event for the hottest phones in tinsel town, the Nokia Lumia 800 for Globe Telecom and the Nokia Lumia 710 for Smart.

Globe Telecom draw the first blood by organizing its launching event tonight, April 18, 2012, at Beso in Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. If your somewhere around the area, you can still make it to the party because it’s open to the public. Not only that Globe has set a grand party for everyone, they are also giving as well 35 Nokia Lumia 800 to lucky attendees. Now that’s cool to the 35th level!

If only I’m in Manila at the moment or Globe sent out invites a month earlier, I would have book a flight so I can attend, the Nokia Lumia 800 is worth my party time!

Smart, on the other hand, gave out invites to their April 19, 2012 party event at Republiq but only to limited participants; celebrities, media, bloggers and those who pre-ordered the Nokia Lumia 710.

Given this initial info’s, Globe Telecom party will definitely rock more with its open public scenario and freebies but who knows, Smart Telecom might have something unannounced on the sleeves. Also, on the Smart Telecom party, you might brush side by side with Smart celebrity endorsers like Anne Curtis perhaps, so it’s a pretty cool scenario as well.

Anyways, here’s a video of the Nokia Lumia 900 launching party in New York with Nicki Minaj for AT&T. Will Globe or Smart have a party as big and as cool as this one? Will see!
