My Dream Form Factor For Mobilephones Comes Alive!

A year after I made an article about my dream device (see it here) and after countless requests and rants, somebody finally answered back with the right form factor the least that is worth featuring in a seemingly Nokia forte blog, the Motorola Droid Pro XT610. The device is a monobloc, capacitative touchscreen with a seemingly perfect screen size of 3.1 inches, conventional dimension of 119 x 60 x 11.7 mm and glorious well space mechanical QWERTY.

I have tried all touchscreen phones out there in different operating systems and platforms (Symbian, Bada, iOS, Android) but the typing mechanism using Virtual keyboard of every single one doesn’t seemed to work for me no matter how I tried to like it. It’s unconventional in day to day use, when you’re walking on the street or riding in a train or bus or any given circumstances that I need to use the phone in one hand. I like to text a lot even while walking so just imagine how difficult and dangerous lone touchscreen phones are for me.

So how about Sliding QWERTY (Nokia N97 Mini, Motorola Milestone), not… because I hate sliding phones when I want to do something fast plus the fact that in the long run, this sliding mechanism will eventually wear out, so it a big no-no.

Back to Motorola Droid Pro, I have to mention that its width is just enough, if you are to compare it to Nokia E72, it’s just 2mm wider so if I can type one handed on an E72, I should have no problem doing so in a Motorola Droid Pro. One issue though was that its keyboard, it’s a bit low that it almost touches the lower edge of the phone, it should have a space beneath before the edge like that of the E72.

So given this entire pro’s for the phone, will I buy it? A big NO because as I mentioned earlier, the form factor is the only aspect it address, when it comes to OS, it’s not that stellar compared to that of HTC’s utilization of Android with Sense UI, when it comes to specs, it’s too far behind the Nokia N8’s camera, video, xenon, screen resolution (AMOLED), and entertainment capabilities, when it comes to service and aftersales support, they're miles away from Nokia and more importantly when it comes to price, it’s rather far too expensive.

So with all cards laid down, my dream phone is yet nonexistent. I again call for Nokia or its competitors to come up with the ultimate device, an OS with all those 3D animation effects outdoing HTC’s with specs outdoing Nokia N8’s, in a pocket friendly price, please?!
