The epitome of all mobilephone hardware in the market, solid, crafty, well thought, well built and well designed, with the exemption of a little flaw and misjudgment on one part, the Nokia E7 is exemplary unmatched and unchallenged to take the top spot in one of the most important aspect in smart mobility.
Anodized aluminum cover, the unscratchable, sleek and compact outer case of the Nokia E7 is the most brilliant idea so far in phones that is built to last for a long time. As careful as users may be, scratches on phone cover specially the plastic or glossy metal covered ones always hunts users down and cannot be avoided even with the most expensive outer cover slipped on, with Nokia E7, users will be worry free, less problem to think about in a bustling business world. As advantageous as it seem but it also has a downside, users get to loss the ability to dodge extra battery as the phones cover is screwed locked.
Sliding mechanism is solid, I may have a doubt about its toughness early on but as the days pass by, it proved me very wrong, it was very durable. When the phones is slide closed, it will look and feel like a monobloc because its wobble free. I even test it just to prove how good the close slide set up was, I showed the phone to everyone I know that doesn't knew anything about the phone and 100% of them were clueless that that its a slider phone, that's how compact it was.
The Nokia E7's sliding mechanism cran be fully utilized to do tasks, like when you slide the phones keyboard out, you can assign it to open new message or open web page, etc, same applies to the closing of slides.
Screen angle against the keyboard is excellent, it makes keyboard typing more pleasurable since users get to see a perfect screen contrast and color saturation in reference to finger and sight viewpoint.
The QWERTY keyboard of Nokia E7 will go down in mobilephone history as one of the best. Space between keys is perfect, it doesn't look crowded like the other keyboards. The bulge of each keys is just enough to give a good tactile feedback. Important keys were properly in place with most of them fully utilized to carry special characters. The keyboard is well lit that using it in the dark is delightful. What I like most of the keypad set-up were the shortcuts implemented in relation to the applications. For instance, its very easy deleting emails via Nokia Messaging or RSS feeds on Resco among others that would have take few more clicks using touch alone.
On the front of the phone was the glorious and the very pleasing 4inches AMOLED screen with a Clear Black Display (CBD) technology and covered no less than the scratch free Gorilla glass, the secondary camera and the sensor on top of the screen and the mechanical menu button on the bottom. The CBD technology over the AMOLED have work in wonders since it had enhance the screen brightness and contrast withstanding even the brightest possible daylight giving a very readable and clear screen outdoors. I had a bit of a problem with the the screen size thought, I'm a bit uncomfortable with its wide dimension that using the phone one handedly requires a bit of effort. The boarder between the screen and the anodized aluminum cover is a dust magnet but it can be handled easily.
On the right side of the phone are the SIM latched, volume rocker, and camera key, all designed to look simple, vacuous and elegant. The camera key is pleasant to use, its very easy to press which makes the image capture more satisfying. The volume rocker is an outstanding system, users will only need to slide the rocker upward to increase the volume or downward to decrease the volume respectively, same applies to camera zooming.
As much as I understand the purpose of the SIM latch mechanism which is to maintain the overall anodized aluminum impression of the sides at the same time make it more secure, I am not a big fan of it since it makes the changing of SIM difficult. Users will have to carry with them thin sticks or they will need to grow there nails long to be able to remove the latch easily.
On the left side of the phone is the desolated yet perfectly positioned lock key which has the same mechanism to that of the volume rocker.
On top of the phone are the uncovered USB Hub, HDMI port, power key and the 3.5mm audio jack. The USB hub and the HDMI port is a bit misplace here because the phone with slider open is difficult to use when attach with a charger or HDMI cable. They would best be distributed on the sides of the phone.
Below the phone is the speaker hole.
On the back of the phone is the uncovered fixed focus 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual LED
flash. As I mentioned earlier, the phone has a flaw cause by misjudgment and I was specifically referring to the fixed focus camera that the designers choose instead of autofocus. It's a mistake to the point of view of photo enthusiasts like myself since I will have to miss the macro shots that is impossible to do with fixed focus. I've read an application though that could remedy this problem a bit and I will share this app as soon as I tested it.
The next generation Dual LED flash of the phone seems to work fine with night shoots, my greatest use of it, Flashlight Extreme!
One of the phones speaker is in the lower back cover of the phone. Speaker is loud enough but its not the loudest in the market.
Phones dimensions is 123.7 x 62.4 x 13.6 mm, weighing 176 grams. As mentioned earlier, I find the phone a bit wide for my short finger so I'm not very much comfortable using it one-handedly. It was also the reason why I got accidental clicks when use in one hand because as I reach the far left upper icons of the screen, my palm touches the lower right icons. The weight is very much manageable, its not heavy and its not light rather, far better though than the early communicator devices.
The battery is a Li-ion 1200mAh non-removable. Its not the biggest power compartment for mobilephones in the market at the moment but the phones handles its power needs exceptionally well that in the last two weeks that I have used the phone, it never faltered ones in giving me a day or two of mobile computing might. I have a well connected lifestyle, unlimited mobile internet, calls and text every now and then, entertainment cravings among others but the phone last for a day or two on my tier. I have never been so impress with the power management of a high spec phone ever.
To sum things up and as my blog article connotes, the Nokia E7's hardware is made to perfection as it address most of the flaws and problems that all its previous successor begets but in addressing this issues, it had created a few bearable flaws, in other words, it is made to perfection by its current purpose and state. By doing so it became the best phone to carry the best hardware specs, incomparable and unparalleled by any other high-end phone in the market at the moment. You can never find a phone in the market at the moment that can topple that hardware specs of the Nokia E7, its a fact that can never be argued!
