Excerpts Saturday! Clones, Closer, Closiest..

Just took the following photos last weekend at one of the major malls in Ozamis City and I have to say that the Chinese Clones have really intensified, this time a becoming more daring in copying Nokia and other mobile phones as close as they seemed to be with sophistication on the products made day by day. I've been featuring clones in this blog before but I never encounter this very close clones than ever.

As you can in the right inset image, side by side are Nokia 6600 Slide, 90% copied in my opinion hardware wise that it really look like the original from size and dimension except the keypad where it has Chinese character embedded and that if you are not very keen to details, you would really be fooled by it thinking that it was original. Of course, the software and User Interface (UI) is beyond question, the clones is far out in this aspects but then, a great percentage of the mass market specially in Third World Countries like Philippines doesn't know how to differentiate original from clone UI as they haven't seen what original software looks, so it wont matter, they can still do basic function of the phone like call, text or even watch TV.

The N97 on the picture is somewhat around 80% copied with just a wash out call and end key buttons but the fact that it also have a sliding form factor and QWERTY keypad underneath, its feels very much the same as that of the original. The E52 is 85% copied while the E71 White is 95% approximate. Second image inset is the E71 Gray version, again looks really close to the original, not so much for the N79 cbut my fav phone, the Nokia N86 is 95% close copied which have also a dual slider form factor.

I where Nokia or Sony Ericsson among the other mobile phone manufacturers, I will surely be mindful of the scenario and took this seriously because anytime soon, this cloners can raise capability to duplicate not only hardware components of there phone but also the software and UI in the long run. This will also serve as a call to the consumers to be mindful of this products and not to buy them as they violate international laws of intellectual property rights and infringement, and there's also a possibility of being fooled to buying this devices at the original price, common venue to get victimized, online shops and auction sites like eBay, again just be cautious and Buy Original!

Mobilephone and Technology Thursday: Nokia E52: Voice-centric Smartphone That Delivers On Productivity

Nokia announces the latest addition to the company’s Eseries portfolio, the Nokia E52 -- for consumers that need efficiency in both their professional and personal lives. The new arrival follows on from the successful Nokia E51, and was engineered with similar priorities. The Nokia E52 excels in the area of talk time and voice quality with nearly a month standby time and noise cancellation, and adds features such as HSPA, A-GPS with Nokia Maps and a 3.2 Mpix camera with flash. It has a music player, media player and FM radio and quick access to applications with one-touch keys (Home, Calendar, Email). It also supports your favorite social networking sites like Ovi, Windows Live!, Yahoo IM, Facebook, YouTube and MySpace.

Whilst being very competent in voice, the Nokia E52 also boasts upgraded email capability with a new email user interface that integrates perfectly with Nokia Messaging, a service that pushes the world’s leading consumer email accounts straight to your device, and Nokia’s corporate email solutions Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. With direct access to either Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Notes email servers, companies can potentially save up to a third of their operating costs for mobile email and personal information management as there is no need for middleware or additional servers.

The Nokia E52 retails for PhP17,580 and is available at all Nokia Stores and authorized dealers nationwide. Take your pick from either Metal Grey Aluminium or Golden Aluminium.

Nokia's Closest Market Segmenation Ever

I've read a lot of articles from Nokia about their plan to create segmentation in the mobile phone market as part of their strategy but I didn't thought it would be as close as E55 and E52 that has identical features and design except for the keypad were E55 had a QWERTY while E52 has the traditional T9 pad. Segmentation was drawn down only to individual consumers preference to which keypad suited them best, another first from the worlds leader in mobile phone. This is a good move by Nokia since consumers had varied taste and the idea of giving them what they like and what they want would mean higher sales and more solid support that would insure the companies top spot in the next few years. Its the notion of being heard and understood that matters to many and Nokia just showed this.

E55 was introduce at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona early this year while the E52 was announced few days ago booth gunning a unique and attractive design that gained attention among the designed conscious business consumers. I personally love the design to, how I wish my N82 Black was created the same way, it would have been perfect.

Both phone have an S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 Operating System, same Weight and Dimension, same Screen Size of 2.4 inches supporting 16 million Color Resolution, same CPU, ARM 11 600 MHz processor, same feature such as Digital Compass, Document Viewer, Noise Calcelation capability, Voice Memo and Battery Span which was said to last up to a stagering 672 hours on 2G while up to 432 hours on 3G.

We would diffinitely see more of this strategy from Nokia in their future devices or even closer to this type of segmentation which is a good thing as it will bring mobile phones closer to everyones ideal preference, our choice.
