Smart vs Globe: Which Telecom Company Offers the Best Lumia Launching Party?

Competition knows no boundary, from pitching its individual plan package for Lumia Windows Phones, now, the Philippines top two largest telecom networks are vying to give the loudest and the coolest launching event for the hottest phones in tinsel town, the Nokia Lumia 800 for Globe Telecom and the Nokia Lumia 710 for Smart.

Globe Telecom draw the first blood by organizing its launching event tonight, April 18, 2012, at Beso in Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. If your somewhere around the area, you can still make it to the party because it’s open to the public. Not only that Globe has set a grand party for everyone, they are also giving as well 35 Nokia Lumia 800 to lucky attendees. Now that’s cool to the 35th level!

If only I’m in Manila at the moment or Globe sent out invites a month earlier, I would have book a flight so I can attend, the Nokia Lumia 800 is worth my party time!

Smart, on the other hand, gave out invites to their April 19, 2012 party event at Republiq but only to limited participants; celebrities, media, bloggers and those who pre-ordered the Nokia Lumia 710.

Given this initial info’s, Globe Telecom party will definitely rock more with its open public scenario and freebies but who knows, Smart Telecom might have something unannounced on the sleeves. Also, on the Smart Telecom party, you might brush side by side with Smart celebrity endorsers like Anne Curtis perhaps, so it’s a pretty cool scenario as well.

Anyways, here’s a video of the Nokia Lumia 900 launching party in New York with Nicki Minaj for AT&T. Will Globe or Smart have a party as big and as cool as this one? Will see!

Smart or Globe? Which Telecom Company Offers The Best Lumia Package?

The full Nokia Lumia family of super devices running Windows Phone will invade the Philippines in a weeks time, the flagship Nokia Lumia 900, the high end Nokia Lumia 800, the midrange Nokia Lumia 710 and lower midrange Lumia 610, all aimed to capture the fancy of tech savvy Filipinos. Among the aforementioned, the following are currently being offered for pre-order in two of the country's biggest telecom networks, Nokia Lumia 710 for Smart Telecom and Nokia Lumia 800 for Globe, offered respectively in a packages uniquely different from the another. Most frequent question would then be, which one offers the best?

Lets compare both packages in a graded showdown with following areas to consider; the phone offered, the most affordable, the most number of services and perks, the most sensible and balance and last but not the least, the best sales services and support that subscriber enjoys from the network. Biggest scorer wins! Read on to find out!

Phone offered

Globe has a powerful weapon of choice, the Nokia Lumia 800. The phone has a critically acclaimed hardware design, touch engineered curve glass display, unibody polycarbonate cover, AMOLED screen display with ClearBlack Display, 16GB of internal memory, 8MP with Carl Ziess optics and Dual LED flash.

Smart telecom tapped the Nokia Lumia 710. A midrange power phone with a glossy high grade plastic cover, regular TFT screen display with ClearBlack Display, 8GB of internal memory, 5MP camera with regular optics and single LED flash.

Other than the aforementioned differences, everything else on the phone were similar in specs and features.

Grade: Globe's Lumia 800 gets 10 signals being far more better, Smart's Lumia 710 gets 6.

The most affordable

For users who have a tight budget like me who just want the cheapest way to get the latest mobilephone craze, this is the most important criteria of all.

Smart offers the Lumia 710 under Data Plan 1000 + PhP450 monthly installment cash out for 24months, amounting to PhP1,450 per month.

Globe on the other hand offers the Lumia 800 under 3 packages. The My Super Plan 499 + 99 Power Surf + 713 cash out per month, amounting to PhP1,311 per month; the Unli Surf Combo 999 + 500 cash out per month, amounting to PhP1,499, then lastly, the My Super Plan 999 + 99 Power Surf + 500 cash out per month, amounting to PhP1,598.00.

Grade: Globe gets 10 signals for offering the most affordable while Smart gets 8.

Most number of services and perks by package

Globe had varied offers per package. Under the My Super Plan 499, subscribers gets the following, consumable amount worth 499, 50MB of mobile browsing and unlimited calls and text to 2 Globe or TM numbers. For Unli Surf Combo 999, users get unlimited browsing, 10 minutes call and 200 SMS to Globe and TM. Lastly, for My Super Plan 999, users gets 999 worth of consumable, 50MB of mobile browsing and 30 minutes calls and 600 SMS to Globe and TM.

Smart offers a single package at the moment which has the following services and perks, 500 SMS to all networks, 500 minutes of calls to Smart and Talk and Text, and 1GB of mobile data browsing.

Grade: Smart gets 10 signals while Globe gets 8.

The most sensible and balance package

Though Smart has the best plan offers, Globe offers are not seclusive, offering a more sensible and balance offering for users. Smart only have 500 free text to all network as part of there package while Globe offers consumable amount that can be use for calls and text to all network. My Super Plan 499 even have unlimited call to two Globe and TM numbers.

Grade: Globe gets 10 signals, Smart gets 8.

Customer service and support

I've been with Globe for quite sometime now and the main reason why I choose Globe is because of its unwavering customer service support. It was the main reason why I switch to Globe from being a Smart postpaid subscriber. I just cant take the long wait in calling Smart customer service, but that was 2 years ago, as of the moment, all my calls are now entertained right away. They even have a postpaid welcome program at the moment where they call new subscribers in order to familiarize them with the services they can enjoy with the network. I'd say its leveling up and taking the postpaid competition seriously.

Grade: Smart gets 10 signals, Globe gets 9.

Summing things up, Smart gets a solid 41 signals while Globe gets 45 making the latter the winner of the Lumia race. Smart with its Lumia 710 is an admirable offer but it fell short compared to Globe. If Smart had only offered a much lower plan package for Lumia 710, they would have won squarely. Smart must seriously consider lowering the plan package or offer additional perks with the phone if they want to compete with the outstanding Globe offer. Its now or never.

Marked Your Calendar! Nokia Lumia 710 Comes To Smart Telecom On March 28, 2012

The Philippines largest telecom network, Smart Communications Inc. launched a teaser webpage marking March 28, 2012 as the arrival of a social powerhouse and the worlds first Nokia Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 710.

The teaser page did not provide any other information besides the date and the phones major features and specifications, but I believe, the said date will be its official announcement with plan packages in store and a pre-order web page.

The Nokia Lumia 710 had been selling very well in most of the countries where it was launched, now its time for Filipinos to enjoy the affordable yet powerful Windows Phone.

Designed for instant social & image sharing, ultimate mobile browsing experience with IE9, and smooth, seamless and high performance experience with its 1.4 GHz processor and top of the line hardware and graphics acceleration, the phone is set to win over the hearts of socially connected young generation.

Widget City Claims To Offer The Nokia Lumia 710 Ahead Of The Philippine Launched

Like the Nokia Lumia 800, the Manila based online retail store, Widget City, claims to be the first to sell the hotly contested Windows Phone on limited stocks.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is still scheduled to be launched in the second quarter but the store took an effort to sell the phone, a month ahead. Confirmed via SMS, it was said that they have available stocks of the Black front, Cyan back version and sell it for PhP15,650.00, a bit expensive than the announced market price but worthy for the effort spent by the store. Users can enjoy the phone ahead from the rest of the world.

Then again, I have to mention that you'll have to buy the phone at your own risk, I cannot confirm its reliability having not tried purchasing from them. They don't even allow walk-in buyers, you have text them first, deposit PhP1,000 for you to be scheduled for a device pick up time and date. I find this process mysterious

Thoughts, Nokia World 2011

So as a customary, it's time to judge one of the biggest event in the mobilephone and tech world.

To answer to the question I posted hours before the event, whether it will shocked or frustrate, I could say that it say that its 70:30, 70 being shocked and 30 being frustrated, thats about 10% down from the previous year. Why, how, what, where, read on for the details.

HIT SHOCKED

- It’s fair to say that Nokia did an excellent job in the overall presentation, keynotes of speakers were overwhelming, the reactions from the audience, the substantial effort that they put into to make it credible and exciting. The Nokia magic is there and twice potent than the last year. Everyone deserve a pat in the back, congratulations to all.

- Information’s and tidbits being shared every now and then like the number of downloads on Nokia Store per day which have now reached 10million plus is a substantial number that cannot be ignored by competitors. Yes, this will not level up to AppStore yet but with Android, given the fact that Nokia is the only manufacturer that carries it, its a big accomplishment as compared to the former whose downloads comes from phones from different manufactures. If competing manucturers will create there own appStore except the successful Apple Store of course and the dismal Bada app store of Samsung, can it surpass Nokia Store?

- Nokia coming up with a very competitive powerful smartphones is a big hit specially that it targets areas where the company is strongest. The entry level and midtier market with the stylish, affordable yet no compromise Asha line up. I really like the looks of the Nokia Asha 303. It's something refreshing and fun. The rest of the Asha line up brought a unique combination of features and specs that were suited to peoples varied needs. I also like the effort of Nokia to bring outstanding applications like Angry birds down to S40 devices. This would mean that Nokia gave importance to the majority of the smartphone buyers, the mass market.
- The Nokia Kenetic is superlative and very promising. It is a phone with flexible screen display and can be controlled by bending, twisting and squeezing the phone. The guys over at Nokia Conversations created a video about it which I embedded below. Watch and see how this technology can change mobility in the future. Impressive technology!

- Nokia Purity Stereo Headsets with Monster inside is a welcome development. Being a music lover since birth, I would love to hear them loud, crisp and clear on my mobilephone via an outstanding stereo headset develop by one of the leading companies in headset technology.
- And speaking of Music, who would ever missed the newest service that brings a seamless and unlimited access to millions of songs, the Nokia Music. Its an application on the Nokia Windows Phone that integrates features like Mix Radio and Gig Finder under one application. What I like in this app is its ability to download a playlist online and play it afterwards offline then play everything by just one click on the Windows Phone tile, super convenient I would say.

MESS FRUSTRATION ;(

- As you've notice, I haven't mentioned about the Lumia line up on the Hit Lists, thats because I find it a little disappointing. First and foremost, Nokia failed to come up with a hardware design that is unique to the line up. For instance, the Lumia 800 is a copy cat of Nokia N9 and the Lumia 710 resembles that of a Nokia 603. As much I like Nokia N9's design and craft which I by the way regarded as the most beautiful smartphone to date, Lumia 800 is just a mere copy and I dislike the thought. The reason why I hate iPhone was that they keep on coming with the same looks over and over again as if there stupid minds wont innovate, I hope Nokia won't fall on the same category. Nokia would have come up with another design that is exclusive to the line up.
- I would have love to see the Nokia N8 successor take the center stage. Well the phone is unparallelled to date as the imaging King but I would love to see more evolution on camera phones. A Windows Phone carrying one maybe?

- I'm still waiting for the announcement of additional Nokia services like movies to be sold via Nokia store or another application but it didn't materialize. Entertainment package would have been complete with this service addition together with Nokia Music and the Xbox Live. Nokia also needs to expand their existing Nokia Store services to other countries like a paid application offering for Philippines maybe?

- Tablet-less. I'm routing to buy one to add to my gadget collection but Nokia haven't created one yet. I might not be able to wait a little longer, they have to move fast.

So, there you go folks, my grade for this years Nokia World. Hopefully Nokia could come up with a better one next time. How about you? What grade will you give to the recently concluded Nokia World 2011? Feel free to comment below!
