Nokia Lumia 928 Officially Announced, Initial Thoughts

After a few days of video and image teasers, Nokia finally revealed the Verizon Wireless exclusive Nokia Lumia 928.

The phone carries on the flagship turf of Lumia 920 being the most innovative smartphone and as the current camera czar with its award-winning PureView imaging innovation, optical image stabilization, 8.7MP camera with wide angle Carl Zeiss lens, LED flash and Xenon.

Of the aforementioned innovations, the Nokia Lumia 928 is the very first breed to offer rich distortion-free audio capture, even in noisy conditions via a built-in three high-audio-amplitude-capture (HAAC) microphone.

It also had the most advanced loudspeakers among mobilephones to date capable of roaring up to 140db or a sound equivalent of an airplane taking off.

The phone is then encase in a stunning, sleek, thin and solid polycarbonate uni-body injection moulded design cover with a pillowed front and back surfaces giving a perfect and classy touch. The phone is only 0.44 inches, the most slender Lumia phone to date. Upfront, it has a 4.5" OLED display with PureMotion HD+, ClearBlack and Sunlight Readability Enhancement technology which is said to deliver crystal clear and bright content with great outdoor visibility and the Corning Gorilla Glass 2 that transmits a responsive touch-screen even with gloves. The glass extends to the very edge of the phone for a high-end feel.

Thoughts

The phone wins hands down in most aspects compared to iPhone 5 or Galaxy S4 but then again as I mentioned in my previous blog post about the device, it kind of lost the unique Lumia styling since it looks more similar to an Xperia device of Sony. Verizon might have an influence in the design but I preferred Nokia’s previous unique approaches.

Though the phone had the impressive mark up of camera specs compared to the Lumia 920, I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t have the 42MP capability like that of the 808 PureView. The smartphone space is definitely still waiting for the Windows Phone 8 successor to the aforementioned device.

I’m also glad to know that Nokia use OLED screen on the device. It would definitely extend the phone’s battery life compared to Lumia 920’s IPS LCD, but hopefully it will not reduce the screen brightness.

I expect a worldwide variant of this phone that would probably be unveiled on the May 14, 2013’s London event, looking forward to it! 3 more days!

Nokia Posted A Teaser Video For The Nokia Lumia 928

The May 14 launching event may still be in 6 days time but we sure knew quite a few of things about the Lumia 928 as Nokia released a teaser video of their best smartphone creation yet.

The video highlights the phones camera prowess outperforming the leading smartphones in all kinds of light condition with its 8.7MP PureView camera with Carl Ziess optics and Optical Image Stabilization technology.

Aside from these, base on the image posted on the teaser page, it became clear that Nokia ditch its polycarbonate shell cover on the phone and adopted a new material, now what material is it, that we have to find out very soon.

Initial impression, I think Nokia lost its unique styling and design as the phone looks more like one of Sony's Xperia phones, though its thinness is very noticeable. Anyways, more and more information's would probably surface as the days progress. Can't wait!

Nokia Lumia Catwalk, Nokia Lumia 928 or Nokia EOS, Which one fits you best?

With the May 14, 2013 Nokia press event nearing, rumors at the moment were full blown with everyone guessing which device will be announced by then, will it be the Nokia Lumia Catwalk, the Nokia Lumia 928 or the Nokia EOS.

A billboard, a magazine page and a Lumia with Xenon flash being use in a concert came out in the wires but no matter how concrete these are as proofs, it will still remain a hearsay unless officially announced.

Among the aforementioned devices, I was more excited on the Nokia EOS being the most camera focused of them all. EOS or the Electro-Optical System is a common specs among DSLR cameras and for these technology to be ported on mobilephones would definitely disrupt both worlds blurring further the line that divides them.

The rumored Nokia Lumia Catwalk on the other hand is said to be focused more on innovating the outer shell hardware making it more thinner, tougher and stylish while the Nokia Lumia 928 according to the leaked billboard is being heralded with the best low light camera tag. I'm pretty sure both the Lumia Catwalk and 928 had the same daylight camera capability that of the Lumia 920 base on the leak images with the later having a more developed low light features.

Anyways, whatever it will be is a step forward for the mobilephone industry with me remaining at a far distant to write and dream about it just like any poor geek does.
