The Flower of Heidelberg (A las flores del Heidelberg)

What does Dr. Jose Rizal and Adolf Hitler have in common? Accordingly, we could trace it on Jose Rizal’s titled work of art.

Wild tales come and goes but for the Rizalista’s, a religious sect who believes that Jose Rizal was a God being the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the poem entitled The Flower of Heidelberg could proved a far greater communality than we expect.

Why, what, where and when? Let’s dive in to history first.

1887 – 1889 - Jose Rizal came to Germany to take up eye specialization. He settled in a boarding house in Heidelberg called Karlstraße at first but was said to have moved in different places in Germany. Within his stay, it was believed that he meet a beautiful laundrywoman that she fell in love with. This inspiration was immortalized by creating a poem entitled A las flores del Heidelberg fully dedicated to his beloved.

1888 — Jose Rizal left Germany leaving his "Flower of Heidelberg" behind.

1989 – Adolf Hitler was born to a laundrywoman with no recorded father. The said woman was working for Alois Hitler and Klara Pölzl who then have Adolf adopted by the said couple. Accordingly, this would explain why Adolf grew up distant to his known siblings and parents even making him the black sheep of the family.

As you can see in the facts presented, it signifies the strong connection of Jose Rizal, Adolf Hitler and the Flower of Heidelberg, the binding truth that Flower of Heidelberg is the mother of Adolf Hitler and Jose Rizal, the father.

Far fetch you might think banking on the huge impossibility, but the two historical figure had the following in common to support the claim:

1. They have almost the same height. For a common German, Adolf Hitler was way too short taking the possibility that he had a foreign lineage.

2. They have similar facial features. It might be that the camera features before was not as clear and as precise but at a glance, you will really find these similarities compelling. Not to mention the gouty of course.

3. They are highly intellectual people. They were linguist, poet, writer and painter.

4. They are both nationalistic and socially conscious. Adolf Hitler though got too far as he wants to convert the whole world to Germany.

As I mentioned earlier, I consider these wild tales and it's definitely beyond proving but on the other hand, its too detailed that it can’t hardly be ignored thus raising the benefit of doubt. True or not, it had captured my fancy thats why I'm featuring it on the blog. Rizalista's believed in these fully and I can't blame them for doing so. What do you think?

Larsian Cebu

Barbecue and Cebu City, a good combination isn't it, the most enticing food in the world in the most desirable place in the country and where can you find the best barbecue in the metropolis, I have no idea, but I been to one of the most famous center of barbecue in the Queen City of the South, Larsian Fuente, located beside Chong Hua Hospital, Fuente Osmena.

It's a place where you can find several stalls of Barbecue vendors, more than 30 I guess, squeeze into one venue. I wouldn't say that they have the best tasting barbecue but you would definitely love the ambiance, the clean and tidy environment, the tantalizing smell of the marinated meat, the smokes coming out of the grill, people who were eating their hearts out among others.

Prices were cheap as well, maybe because of the stiff competition, having 30 other sellers in one place would definitely trigger price cuts to attract customers, not to mention the warm reception from representatives of each stalls waiting in the entrance to lure customers coming in to go to their respective stalls and dine.

Barbecue products, ranges from pork, chicken, to fish, chorizo, longanisa, internal organs such as the intestine, liver among others. I personally like the chorizo, intestine and liver, this are always present in my order list everytime I visit here, its a combination of sweet, bitter and tangy smack to the taste bud, toppled with a hot and spicy sauce, it becomes a perfect feast.
If your visiting Cebu City, Philippines, drop by in this place and try barbecue, Cebuano style.

Food; Hit and Misses

I was out of Cebu for quite sometime and within those years of absence, I miss a few food tidbits specially finger snack delights found in malls. I was a mall rat before (still consider myself one up to now) and this types of food are very accessible that made me missed eating them once in a while.

Misses:

The Oishi Manju. This are steamed cakes of flour mixtures with delicious chocolate or custard filling inside. As you can see in this pictures, it is a pear shape cake which became very delightable to eat due to its small and mouthfull size. Upon chewing you will then taste the filling inside that brings a delectable appeal into it. I haven't seen this food stall anywhere else yet that makes it uniquely Cebu. The 8 pieces Oishi Manju cakes cost at around Php28.00.

Hit:

It was just recently that I discovered another uniquely Cebu tidbit. They call it FOBI, a baked Ice Cream. Yes folks, a baked ice cream!! Baked in a since that the ice cream is enclose in a tard flour where it will be baked like a regular bread yet it has a cold ice cream inside. I know your confused but it make sense. Its preserve first in a freezer as you can see in the picture and then they'll take it out when you buy one, put it in an oven for a while then gave it to you hot and cold. The oven will bake the the flour outside thus it became a hot soft bread with an ice cream inside. Its like eating a hot and cold ice cream, they mixed and jive pretty well, a brilliant idea. I would say that I like it, it brings a different smack to my senses.

I was able to chat a bit to the attendant and she was very proud to tell me that its their very own recipe and cannot be found anywhere else. Its indeed uniquely Cebuano that hails from Barangay Lahug. She also told me that the company exist for about a year now and since it receive remarkable support from customers, they have expanded their operation reaching towards the four walls of SM City Cebu. A feet worth nothing for a booming Cebuano company.

You should try this when if you accidentally stroll by SM Cebu, highly recommended by me.
