Movie Time at Bed Time

I dupe a bit of my precious time and drop by a movie house at Mindpro Zamboanga City to watch any movie big tube have to offer and run across Bedtime Story that stars Adam Sandler. It was a big hit in United States Box Office, so I didn't hesitated to watch it. Okay, call that curiosity by influence but would it nice to know why it was a big hit? I also thought of giving myself a few hours to laugh my hearts out because I've been hampered by a lot of pressures left and right recently, you know what I mean c",

Anyways, back to the movie, I had a great time watching it, I can say that of all the movies I watch featuring Adam Sandler, this was one of the best. It has all the elements I want, fun, laughter, action, adventure, lesson in life, romance, heart, family, almost complete. The signature comic for Sandler was there, only this time I find it more hilarious, call that evolution, a more mature type of basket comedy. The story was great, a loser to winner kinda story which I can relate into, a big haha, important element, winner at the end and I'm not talking about failed relation here, just life, having ups and down.

I know, I'm getting sentimental and this suppose to be a happy movie feature, but really the movie was a bomb, you should see the funny antics of the squirrel, the British guy who hosted the MTV VMA 2008, Philippines pride, Rob Scheider, the Sleep Shock Disorder, etc, I like it for the moment and I would like to recommend this to everyone, go watch, spend a penny and gain laughing points to combat wrinkles, you wont regret it. c",

My Mobile History.com Part 1

I've been using mobile phones for about 8 years now and just like me, you probably owned several models being it a commodity nowadays than luxury. This is a quick rundown of my mobile phone history, not to many actually.

My very first phone was the Nokia 3310, I brought this phone, August 2001 after my 3rd monthly salary. It cost at about 8,000 Pesos that time which was a bit expensive but since it was one of the hottest phone in the market and almost everyone where using it, I did not hesitate buying one. The most attractive feature of the device was the Snakes game, 3310 was one of the early Nokia phones to have a gaming platform, and it was the hottest game at that moment. The form factor was also a big factor of its success being the smallest, most of the mobile phones that time where bulky and heavy and 3310 offers a cool new look and touch. After a year and a half of heavy usage, I lost it in a motorcycle stint, I was riding rear side at the back of the driver and somebody text me, took it out, I wasn't able to sleeve it back properly in my pocket and boom, it slip away, gone. It was my very first heartbreak. c", It was like 70% of my life was lost and it took me a week to recover haha.

My second phone was the Nokia 3510, a candybar phone that I brought second hand in Cagayan De Oro, Limketkai Mall. It was like love at first site, I like the design, it has a bigger screen and soft keypad, best of all its Polyphonic, one of the emerging feature that time. The games, it has one of the most advance gaming flatform at that time with the likes of Kart Racing, Bumper, Space Impact 2, Dance2Music, Link5 and added features like Animated Screensavers, Picture messaging among others. I was using this phone for almost two years and loving every inched of it.

My third phone was the Smart Amazing Phone, a postpaid service device exclusively distributed by Smart Communications. It was known to be the HTC Tanager outside the country, a windows mobile device with 65thousand color resolution, 3G, expandable memory and a detachable camera. It was one of the coolest phone that time being one of the first device that carry those specs. It was my girlfriends phone (ex-girlfriend now) and she handed it down to me because shes about to work abroad and wanted me to continue her postpaid plan. I was very happy owning this device, kinda like being one of the coolest dudes in town, you know what I mean. This phone also introduce me to the world of customization and become one of the active member in airfagev.com, a website that specifically created for windows mobile users that houses free themes, ringtones, software and games. Unfortunately, my 6months old nephew played with it and drop it, thanks to her mother who gave it to her as a toy while I wasn't around, and it was never been fixed, they say it was a motherboard problem and can only be fixed if I will buy the motherboard which cost almost the same as brand new. IT also bothered me because my girlfriend might think that I did not took care of it and shes very keen on this stuff.

To be continued.. Stay Tuned!! c",

New Firmware Update!! v31.0.016 for N82

You probably knew about it by now because this news came out yesterday January 26, 2009 over at allaboutsymbian webpage, but it was not a surprise to me because I already encounter this version January 25, 2009 at the N-Gage web page, in fact I posted a question at the Users Opinion page of Nokia N82 at GSMArena.com 2009-01-25 11:01, now on page 5, asking co-owners of Nokia N82 if they have an idea about the firmware version. I didn't care checking Nokia Software Updater also, anyways, I'm glad that its confirmed, at least we have something to look forward to, something new to our beloved N82.

Some of the early upgraders like Mr. Slitchfield of allaboutsymbian wrote initial feedback and he had encounter few bugs specially on Nokia Maps and this made me less enthusiastic to upgrade because I love using Nokia Maps. I might also loose my Nokia Email service again since theirs a possibility that it will be wipe out after the upgrade and I dont want to loose this service again.

I've been following developments on this upgrade and this were some of the feedbacks made.
1. The new firmware is now hackable and several mobile freaks where very happy with this, I don't know how to hack so obviously I don't care about it.
2. More faster and stable interface than the v3o. Hopefully this is true, I'm experiencing few hang ups with my current firmware particularly using maps and music player at the same time.
2. Call ending bug fixed. Another good upgrade, my N82 freezes a bit after a call, 5 seconds I guess, but this really didn't bother me before.
3. Improved Auto Screen rotation. I don't mind.
4. Slightly louder and bit clearer loudspeakers. Okay, how clear will this be? v30 already improve the sound speakers, maybe this would mean more louder and clearer.
5. Faster GPS Lock, this is a good one. Although I don't use this often but I'm glad that its now faster, some decsribe it as "almost instant" impressive then.
6. Smoother fonts. Hmmm?!?
7. WLAN connectivity improved. Good point, I'm using WLAN all the time to update my Nokia Email.
8. Phone memory went up to 117.9 MB. Better, old firmware has only 87MB available after the upgrade.
9. Battery performance improved. Best news of all.

Well, it seems that the firmware is a good one but I'll still be waiting for the change log before upgrading, besides its not yet available with the Philippine Code. It will be like 3 weeks or so before it arrives, just in time for more feedbacks and the complete change log.

Another 5800 XpressMusic Update!

Back to the 5800 XpressMusic update folks, the Zamboanga City, Philippines Edition.

I have some good news and very bad news. The good news, confirmed and sealed, 5800 XpressMusic went on sale in snitch mobile shops but then as of the moment, its out of stock and that's the very bad news.

I went to four main mobile shops in the city and all of them said that there selling the device already but runs out easily. The very first shop I visited was at the Gateway Shoppers Center, the unit cost and around Php20,340 for credit cards installment of up to 6 months, my best option, and it has a less of 1,900 Pesos if bought in cash, it means that the unit cost at about 18,440 only, quite cheap there than the Nokia Flagship price of 19,990 but a bit expensive than the eBay.ph price of 18,000, yup, a super seller on eBay.ph had just drop the price today. Quite happy here, this device costs at about 25thou when it first came out on eBay, and a big hooray for my brother, he wanted this phone badly and the least, its now within my payable bracket. And as mentioned earlier, they don't have a standby unit for the time being and I have to wait for 3 days if I'll buy one, pre-order stint, frown face.

My next pit stop, Expressions Mobile House and they tag 5800 XpressMusic at 18,900 frame, all cash, no credit card installment, a big bobo, and i have to wait for 3 days again because they run out of stock. The saleslady told me that they have 10 units that arrive last week and was sold fast, most of those who got the phone ordered a week ago and I have to cast reservations myself if I want to secure a piece of their stocks arriving within the week.

The craziest thou was the info I got from Busy Tone right beside Chowking, the good sales man told me that I have to pay half of the units price for them to cast a reservation for me, hmmm, pretty odd here because what if the unit wont arrive in due time, can they like, refund my payment right there and then? a big nope, I will have to wait for a week or so before i could get refunds, standard operating procedure for most business establishments.

The last authentic mobile store in line, Megaworld and there not selling the unit yet so obviously they don't know the price, the good news though, there stocks were coming and they emphasize that there going to sell it cheaper than the competition, and this was proven and tested. I brought a Sony Ericsson P1i in this store before and believe it or not, its cost at about 4thou lower than the other stores, shockingly true.

Anyways this will be it for now, no show of 5800 XpressMusic available at the moment, hopefully its already here by next week so I can get a unit for my brother, and yes so I can take a peak as well.

Holy More!!

From one holy news to another, this time, the biggest revelation of the season, Nokia N97, the most powerful mobile computer to date, is now listed for pre-order on Play.com and it vehemently state its availability by March 2009. A very exciting news for the millions of eager buyers like me since I've been wanting to own this device since the day I gaze my eyes on it. I thought it will be available by June, but it seems that Nokia got pretty much excited about it specially with 5800 Xpressmusic, its very first touchscreen device breaking company sales record around the world. I will be able to own it earlier than expected and I can't wait. (Grim Smile) c",

The device is price at 479.99 British Pounds which is at about 31,360 Pesos here in the Philippines, a bit to expensive for a mobile phone and I could own a brand new laptop with this tag, but then, I believe its worthed that's why I'm willing to save for it and I only have 3 months to prepare. It would mean another drastic move like credit card installment in this regard haha, cheers to the organization of creditors for the opportunity. c",

Anyways, I'm preparing for the best, at least I have something to look for in about 2 months time and my N82? I will still be using it until it brooks down, it will then serve as my alternative for mobile phone matters but will still be my major phone when i comes to imaging and video. N97 will carry the same megapixel and camera specs that of N82 but N97 will not be as good as the legendary, and it wont carry Xenon flash.

Let just see what happens next. Stay Tunes for more!

Holy!!

Got some Good News my Dear Readers......

I finally got my Nokia Email back!! c", yes, yes, and hundreds of yes's. In my post yesterday, or should I say a week ago since I wrote that post like a week ago and publish it yesterday hehe, its called advance post, I made mention about missing my Nokia Email service to the point of rebooting my phone, now I was able to log it in, full force and with pure luck. Well, maybe I was just to dumb not to figure it out from the start but then better be dumb that stupid, right?

Now its called Nokia Messaging and has its very own webpage, call that a full term Nokia best service. The scenario, I downloaded the Nokia Email beta software, use the service using my Gmail account, service was cut off after the software graduated from beta, from then on, I couldn't figure how to log in using the new full software version because my brain malfunctioned. If your having the same problem like mine, try this simple steps.

First visit the Nokia Messaging website, http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action, then in this page, select the "Upgrade Now" option, you will then be redirected to the log in page, enter all your details like username and password, after this you will then be brought to your account page. In the left part of the account page, click on the "Install Now" button, the next page will asked for your Mobile Number and phone type, click "Next", your phone will then receive a text message after a few minutes with a download link, click it, download will start and installation will follow. Afterwards, a set up page will emerge where you will be asked for your password and access point, fill this up and your done. c",

See how simple this was and it took me years to figure, hehe, just kidding, the truth was, I didn't download the application this way and that's the root cause of the problem. I used the "download to PC" set up which I believe will automatically download the software installer for new users which wasn't my case because I'm a beta user. I got the wrong software installer, huhumm oh well, it's a lesson learned, I have to read details next time. c",

Chao for now folks!

Cleaning Up My N82

After months of heavy usage, I've decided to clean my beloved N82 to free it from chunks like maybe debris left by software I installed then uninstall after a few days, broken software's among others. I also suspected my clotted phone memory to be the main cause why I cant run my Nokia Email anymore, but unfortunately after the reboot, it still wont work, why Nokia? I'm a very big fan of this service and I have been missing it for quite sometime now.

The phone still runs fast as before, no problem either on other fronts and I have not been hit again by the SMS Bug, I just want to clean my phone and I miss the original factory setting and icons, call it relieving those days. Please note that before this you have to back up your files using the content copier on Nokia PC Suite and Back up your memory card as well.

The most effective way is to drop it on a washing machine, haha, just kidding c", best way is to type *#7370# from the standby screen and then type the unlocking code which is 12345 and wallah, phone is booted. In my experience, my phone boots at about 2 minutes, then it restarts by itself and ask for details like my country, date and time. Its totally safe and my phone memory went back to 100MB something, with Nokia software's that were pre installed left. The Navfone by the way was erase because its a third party software and if your fun of using this, have it Back up.

I just have a problem with the memory card later on, it was asking for a Password that I did not set and the only way I recovered it is by reformatting the card. I was really lucky on my decision to back up my files on the memory card because if I didn't, it would have been lost forever.

Anyways if your planning to reboot and clean up your phone, just remember the precautions I gave. Back up all your files both from the phone and the memory card.

My N82, 6 Months and Counting

Today is the 6months birthday of my Nokia n82. Just a slight run over of its current status, still, everything works well, talking about toughness here.

I never have a phone before that looks and feels brand new after 6 months of use, just my N82, its either because I took care of it very well or its because it was made to stand the test of time. I do have some small scratches on the front screen and on top part near the power button but other than that it remains shiny and attractive. My D pad on the right part has a small snitched, erased silver coat but it doesn't bother me and I have already mentioned the water vapor that zipped inside the screen that leaves dustlike white particles and its unnoticeable, its just me being to quirky.

Performance wise, I have a few restarts if I use Nokia Maps with the music player at the same time, a reinstalling software scenario every time I restart my phone, it says untrusted software on memory card, what else, I think that's about it, and other than all this, its still as fast as before, it still gave me the best images and video, fast Internet browsing, fast GPS locking among others. It didn't even have major issues that needs servicing or repair and the battery life have not faltered, truly amazing.

As of this moment, replacing this phone is not an option for me yet, until now I haven't found its worthy successor among all the new breads, I might have been tempted to buy N85, E71 or the new fav on the block, 5800 XpressMusic even to the point of selling the device on eBay.ph with a buyer in line so I can buy this new phones, but after days end, my N82 still emerged among them all, whip face down and strong.

My next phone would then be the Corolla or the N97 and that would be coming out 6 months from now, just in time for my Nokia N82 to grow older and bolder.

Food; Hit and Misses

I was out of Cebu for quite sometime and within those years of absence, I miss a few food tidbits specially finger snack delights found in malls. I was a mall rat before (still consider myself one up to now) and this types of food are very accessible that made me missed eating them once in a while.

Misses:

The Oishi Manju. This are steamed cakes of flour mixtures with delicious chocolate or custard filling inside. As you can see in this pictures, it is a pear shape cake which became very delightable to eat due to its small and mouthfull size. Upon chewing you will then taste the filling inside that brings a delectable appeal into it. I haven't seen this food stall anywhere else yet that makes it uniquely Cebu. The 8 pieces Oishi Manju cakes cost at around Php28.00.

Hit:

It was just recently that I discovered another uniquely Cebu tidbit. They call it FOBI, a baked Ice Cream. Yes folks, a baked ice cream!! Baked in a since that the ice cream is enclose in a tard flour where it will be baked like a regular bread yet it has a cold ice cream inside. I know your confused but it make sense. Its preserve first in a freezer as you can see in the picture and then they'll take it out when you buy one, put it in an oven for a while then gave it to you hot and cold. The oven will bake the the flour outside thus it became a hot soft bread with an ice cream inside. Its like eating a hot and cold ice cream, they mixed and jive pretty well, a brilliant idea. I would say that I like it, it brings a different smack to my senses.

I was able to chat a bit to the attendant and she was very proud to tell me that its their very own recipe and cannot be found anywhere else. Its indeed uniquely Cebuano that hails from Barangay Lahug. She also told me that the company exist for about a year now and since it receive remarkable support from customers, they have expanded their operation reaching towards the four walls of SM City Cebu. A feet worth nothing for a booming Cebuano company.

You should try this when if you accidentally stroll by SM Cebu, highly recommended by me.

Nokia Flagship Store Cebu

One of the most prominent and busiest occupants in SM City Cebu is the Nokia Flagship Store which also serves as a Service Center for Nokia Consumers. I seeked help regarding the Nokia Email Service that I have loved and used before for quite sometime (featured it in this blog) but cannot access anymore since the application graduated from Betalabs. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the answer I want because I still cannot access my Push eMail. Now, its like part of my mobile computing was missing since I lost it. Worse, it seems that the Service Representatives have no idea on the Email service and it sound annoying to me.

I also inquired about the dust that got inside the screen and they told me that it wasn't a dust but a water vapor that zips inside which leaves a white precipitate after it dried down. They offered to clean it up but I refused because I have limited time and I don't have a day to spare.

Lastly about the game that I install named "Devil May Cry" that came out to be defective and cannot be remove from the phone and memory card. They told me to reformat the memory card and its the only way if I want to get rid of it. I have to be cautious next time in installing files on my phone and download only from trusted sites like Mosh. By the way, I downloaded that game in Mobile9, you should take the necessary precaution in using the said site.

Anyways, still, I have to thank Nokia SM people for being so accommodating, Nokia Flagship in Ayala Cebu is not that friendly like that of SM folks and Nokia management should look into this matter before they'll suffer the consequence of losing valuable customers because of its alienating staffs.
