The Nokia E72 Chronicle: The Journey

Yes you guess it right, another business trip to Asia’s Only Latin City, Zamboanga, the never ending travel, discovery and adventure to the place that I’ve grown to love and has already took a big place in my heart that if I am to be asked a place to settle with, this will be it amidst it’s notorious reputation around the world. Well maybe it’s my nature to love danger, but overall, it’s a perfect place for business, no less!

My travel stints is as always equivalent to my mobilephone’s battery test, that’s because it’s most of the time my only company during the grueling long travel, I prefer not to bring any human being with me due to its confidentiality and I usually travel overnight so it’s not really a good time to make friends with your seatmate as you will try to overcome sleepiness. Best way for me to counter this, play my phones music player overnight, games, twitter and surf the net via GPRS, I hate sleeping on the bus during travel, accidents happen when least expected so being awake all the time is the best way to be safe.

Started my travel time at around 6:00 PM with a newly charge, battery full phone. Every time I hope in on the bus, my music player also starts playing and will be turned on mostly for the rest of the night, I also start surfing via GPRS, check tweets, eMail , etc. and check back on it every once in a while.

8:00 PM, arrived at the Molave Bus Terminal. After almost two hours of unlimited music, few SMS, a single call with 4 minute duration, check tweets, etc, the phone never bugged a single bar, a good start, the Nokia N97 Mini, E75 and 5530 XM also don’t loss a bar during this times so it’s not rather surprising except that of the N82 which losses one bar.

09:30 PM, arrived at the Pagadian Bus Terminal which was bisect by black out that time, yup, this country is curse with rotating blackout at the moment as a result of government’s incapacity to resolve long laid issue on power shortage, now it’s taking effect and people are suffering. Took out my E72 and write a full article about Black Out! Yikes!

Anyways, the E72 after 4 hours a half hour used starts to strike boldly against the others in power efficiency, it have never lose a single bar amidst the grueling nonstop used, the E75 will usually take a bar down during this times, while the N97 Mini, 5530XM will lost 2 bars and the Nokia N82 takes a quarter of its battery.

12:00 AM, my fatigue starts to take a tool on me, I usually go to bed at around 11:30, (that’s after Queen Seon Deok, haha, yeah I’m lame) so I’m starting to lose consciousness every now and then. It’s really difficult to go against your body clock, its takes a lot of effort just to stay awake and in my case, consume more power on my mobilephones as I need to play fast track music to keep my mode upbeat. Battery check , full bars on E72, now the phone starts to amaze, 6 hours of nonstop used yet it didn’t even loss a single bar, dazzling! Wow! I maybe sleepy during this time but I’m pretty sure that I read the battery gauge correctly.

1:00 AM, stop the phones music player and went stilt. My plan to stay awake for the rest of the night failed and I have tried every possible ways to counter it, energy drink, caffeine, pinching my nose, etc. yet everything just didn’t work.

5:00 AM, arrived at my destination after 11 hours, I then went to my favorite place to kill time, Chowking Zamboanga, they not only serve good food, they also have WIFI signal to poke upon and keep me busy, offices open at 8:00AM so I still have 3 hours to hurdle. Battery check, one bar down… yup, you read it right, I only spend a single bar overnight, the very first time that I encounter such, scenario that I never thought of achieving with E72. Other phones like the Nokia N97 Mini and 5530XM usually will just have 2-3 bars on the counter during these times, E75 will spend half of its power while N82 will go nearly empty, imagine that for a difference, very huge! E72 is one heck of a power saver phone, amazing!

The next 3 hours where spent with E72 flying on the hills of internet land, power consumption normally increases with WIFI access. At around 8:00AM, the phone losses two more bars bringing it to its halfway mark. Then again, if I am to compare this with my other phones, everyone else goes empty and I need to recharge them to the best impossible ways. Have you tried charging a phone in a bank? I’ve tried one without permission while waiting for my turn to transact, I even tried charging in a malls hallway where a plug was left open. c”,

2:00 PM, just got finished with everything I came for business, time for the leisure part of the trip, I usually visit places during this time, tourist spots, etc, but this time I just spend time roaming around the mobilephone shops, Xpressions Mobile specially and talk to the only Nokia Rep in the city (Ruffa!) and asked info’s. The store by the way is now selling Nokia X6, the very first capacitative touchscreen from Nokia. I wasn’t able to grip on it as it was enclose on a shelf and Ruffa doesn’t have a demo unit yet, but from a distance, the phone looks gorgeous especially in white. I hope I’ll be given a chance to try this phone in the future. Nokia X6 is currently being sold at PhP19,995.00, same introductory price that of the 5800XM a year ago, not bad considering the fact that X6 is carrying a more powerful specs than the 5800XM. Battery checked, 3 bars left. Well, it seemed that E72 could last another overnight trip which I will be taking this 10:00PM.

10:00PM, head down to the Guiwan Bus Terminal to catch up for the 11:00PM trip for Pagadian. The phone is currently on a one bar stint after 28 hours. It seemed that the phone is shelling out power faster when it reach the halfway mark even though I have only use it for SMS and Calls since this morning. This would only mean that I will be losing my music player overnight, sad but I’m very tired anyways so I will just sleep the night away.

5:00AM, arrived at the Pagadian Bus Terminal. The phone was already empty when I reach there and have no idea when it bugged down since I was sleeping the whole way through but nonetheless, it was remarkable!

The phone proves its mightiness in terms of power consumption to conclude, it’s the only phone yet among those that I tried that lasted this long, the only phone that could stand against my busy and techy lifestyle, the only phone who lived!
