The Nokia N9 Journal: Day 7, Tips and Tricks

Time to catch up with my Nokia N9 journal, I haven't had time to update my blog lately because the semester is about to end and were having finals exams left and right. (Access the First Impression post HERE and Day 1 of the Jouranal HERE)

This time around, were going to talk about Tips and Tricks of the best Nokia smartphone to date. I found a few on the Nokia N9 webpage and as added a few that I discovered myself after a few days of using the phone.


DOUBLE TAP


- Will light up the screen on the stand-by screen.
- To quickly zoom in or out in browser
- To quickly fit a section of the webpage to the phone display, unfortunately no automatic text re-flow in here.

ORGANIZE APPS ON THE MENU PANEL


- Change order of applications on applications view with long press (keep finger down for a moment on top of the application icon)

CLOSING APPLICATIONS


- You can close the applications on the Open applications panel by pressing and holding it for seconds and select X.
- You can configure the closing of applications through a swipe down action. Go to Setting - Display - Turn on the Swipe down to close app

ALARM

- Mute the alarm by turning the device upside down or by pressing the power key gently. Works in all alarms (Calendar, Call or Clock)

POWER SAVE MODE

- For prolonging the use time, power save mode can be activated from settings - device - battery
- Close apps hat you don't use so it wont run on the background.

CHANGE THE PROFILE USING THE VOLUME KEYS

- Use the volume keys to change the current profile.
- Press the volume keys up or down until the desired profile is displayed. This is possible in views where the key is not used for controlling volume or zoom level.

CONTACTS

- Import contacts from Facebook with Import contacts from service functionality

MUSIC

- In playing mode — change to next or previous song with flick on the screen.
- Play/pause - Tap on the top of the album art

CAMERA


- Touch focus: by tapping the screen, focus will move to the tapped place. Automatic face recognition is not active then. By tapping in the middle of the screen, focus will be automatic again and face recognition actve

TAP AND SHARE USING NFC

- You can also share pictures or videos from Gallery, or with another Nokia phone that supports NFC. To share with NFC, after taking a picture or recording a video,
touch the NFC area of the other phone with the NFC area of your phone

SERVICES

MAP
- To view the map in full screen mode, tap the map.
- To zoom in or out in the map view slide you finger apart or together on the screen
- Maps has 3D landmarks visible in 3D mode. Open Maps —> Settings —icon —> enable 3D -mode

STORE
- From the Nokia Store you may download other FREE applications, videos, ringtones and wall papers

MUST NEED APPLICATIONS TO DOWNLOAD

SWIPE MANAGER
- Lets you control the swipe actions on Nokia N9. You can configure the Swipe Up, Swipe Down, Swipe Right and Swipe left to either Switcher Panel, Events Panel, Launcher Panel, Close Apps or Away. I have configured the Swipe Up gesture to closing of app so I can close apps easily after opening one.

PHONE TORCH
- Lets you transform your phones LED flash to a flashlight. Been using this a lot on my Nokia N9

and finally the
SCRACTH E-PAD app so you would be undated with the latest news and information on Nokia N9.
