Wow!! 2008 is almost over and its like it has just started. Well, time really fly fast and we are now on the verge of 2009. How do you celebrate this time of the year? Here in my country, we attend a mass, 2 hours before midnight, its like praying for a bounty new year ahead and we prepare for Media De Noche where we feast on the eve with lots and lots of food, spaghetti or pansit to be exact for long life among others. Of course the celebration would not be complete without the all time favorite fireworks display and loud banging sounds to drive away bad luck. I believe this is a Chinese tradition adopted by Filipinos.
Filipinos also have many "pamahiin" or superstition, like the wearing of polka dots clothes, preparation of 13 round fruits, 25 pieces of round coins wrap in red clothes, 13 boiled eggs to be eaten on the eve, the red rose on a glass of water to be drunk also on the eve, turning all appliances and vehicles on, the all time famous jump for people to grow taller among others. Theirs a lot of things to at this very moment and its fun doing all this at a time. c", I love New Year, it brings new hope, promises new life and keeps dreams alive.
