Interesting Info behind the Top 100 most visited sites in the Philippines

Alexa.com constantly tracks the most popular and most visited websites in the world wide web and they have a specific Top 100 lists per country including the Philippines. As I went through the lists, I actually found interesting facts to buzz about, the "intriguing" labeled ones that were highly unexpected, so dive around this facts and be dazzled.

1. Search Engine Sites - The world might have gone crazy over Google but Filipinos shouts Yahoo! more, though there difference is a mile far being Yahoo on number two spot and Google on 3rd, its still a huge statement to declare. On the far 16th spot was Windows Live search and Bing on the 24th. I Google more..

2. Social Networking Sites - Facebook took the front set landing on the number one spot overall followed by Twitter on the 8th, Multiply on the 11th and the once almighty Friendster falling to 12th place. I use to Friendster a lot before but just like most of the online connected Filipinos, I grew tired with it. At the moment, I'm Twitting a lot and crushing Facebook sometimes but my current fab Foursquare didn't make it yet to the top 100, well its getting popular, so I expect it to rate very soon.

3. TV Station war - Well, we've heard claims from Kapamilya, Kapuso and Kapatid that they are number one on ratings game but web traffic tags the Kapuso network with its website GMANews.TV the front runner in the race landing on the 80th spot. The Kapamilya network's ABS-CBNnews.com only landed on the 92nd place. Kapatid network is nowhere to be found. Let the network war reach online TV fanatics, go visit your respective sites now!

4. Print News media - Philippines have 3 major national newspapers and a bunch of locals but among these competing organizations, Philippine Daily Inquirer leads the way landing on the 27th spot while the Philippine Star landed on the far 59th. The rest of the competition failed to make it to the elite 100. Well Philippine Daily Inquirer is number one nationwide so it just reflected online.

5. Online Stores - This really shocked me big time because Sulit.com.ph, a locally suited online store made it way big grabbing the 8th spot overall. Amazon.com, a US base online shop with no local site manage to make it to the second lead by holding the 23rd spot while my fav site, eBay.ph only manage to grabbed 30th spot. AyosDito.ph landed on the 41st, TipidPC.com on the 77th, olx.com.ph on the 78th and the international eBay site on the 79th.

6. Technology site - CNET.com is the only tech site that made it to the list, well this would mean that majority of Filipinos are not techy. That makes me elite then! Wosh!

7. Blogsites - Blogger manage to grab the lead taking the 6th spot while Wordpress was on the 10th. Well, it seemed that Filipinos loved to blog since blogsites notched big.

8. Telecom Networks - No fuss, Smart Telecom is the only company that made it to the Top 100 grabbing the 90th spot. Well considering how Filipinos love cellphones and texting, they don't care much in visiting the website of telecom networks there using. Smart Telecom have 15million active subscribers at the moment but it almost did not make it to the top 100 website. Interesting!

9. Mobilephone Companies - Speaking about cellphones and texting, the only mobilephone company that made it to the list, Apple Inc. on the 71st spot. Well it must have something to do with there online store because Nokia and other mobilephone phone companies did not make it even if Nokia is the number one mobilephone company in the country. Well there is only one sensible thing to do for Nokia to catch up to Apple's web popularity, port there online store locally so people visit them and buy directly from them. Add the music store also and the paid applications of Ovi Store. It will do magic.

10. Banks - Well Filipinos doesn't do online banking much as only one company made it to the Top 100 most visited website, the UnionBank of the Philippines. This bank is even on the tail end among the biggest banks in the country, so what happened to the top banks like Metrobank, BDO, BPI, etc? Maybe Pinoys doesn't trust online banking, I don't rather.

11. Airlines - Even after rigid online booking campaign of two of the biggest airline company in the country, only one made it to the popular's list, Cebu Pacific Air. Well they are not regarded as the number one local airline company for nothing. I love their seat sale! Keep it coming!

12. Sports - Not that Filipinos doesn't like sports, we are sports lovers but not locally catered I believe because NBA.com, an international site made it on the Top 100 lists alone, no other sports site made it to the lists not even PBA or the Philippine Basketball Association. Basketball is the countries national sports but the local Basketball league is thriving.

13. Porn sites - Yes its last but not the lists. Youporn made it to the 60th spot while Redtube on the 100th. Filipinos were naughty but nice!

So there you go folks, Top 100 sites, Pinoy Style! How many sites among the list do you visit often?
