Nokia Windows Phone 7 Sneak Peak

Hot phone design isn't it? But this needs to be transformed to real ones as they are at the moment concepts. Well, Nokia have been very bringing remarkable hardware for decades so it wouldn't be surprising if this phone will come out the best of its class.

Nokia does have great talent in convincing people because this picture alone excites me a bit that I'm willing to reconsider my stand on not supporting Nokia Windows Phone. Well, as long as Nokia remains true to it promise of continuously developing Symbian and Meego, there is no other reason why I wouldn't change my mind. They say Windows Mobile is a great operating system, well its not open so its not as great as they claimed it to be. I would still prefer Meego as of the moment.

Anyways, its still a long way to go before the Nokia Windows Phone kick's off, in Nokia World 2011 maybe and there's still a lot of things that will happen along the way! Hot Phone!

Code Sparks Is Back With A Flashing $1000 Prize!!

Nokia Philippines and Globe Telecom teams up again to challenge Filipino creativity and tech savviness in mobile application design as it brings once more CodeSpark 2011, a program that encourages mobile developers to build innovative applications for the Nokia platform and have their creations published through Nokia’s Ovi Store.

Globe Labs, a department in Globe created in 2008 to immerse the company and its different partners with technologies leads the challenge. They aim to identify and develop applications across fixed and wireless networks that can be commercially introduced.

Nokia Philippines tapped Forum Nokia this year to provide developers with tools, technical information, support, and distribution channels that they can use to build and sell innovative, world-class applications and on the frontlines, Nokia’s very own Qt, a cross-platform application and UI framework and Java MIDP.

CodeSpark 2011 is open to developers — individuals, groups, companies or members of the academe. Game applications to be developed must be educational in nature. Applications should connect to the Internet via GPRS, 3G or HSDPA to deliver all or part of their core functionality or use at least one of Globe services — SMS, MMS, LBS or voice.

Interested developers may register, which should include their outlines for the application they wish to develop.

Submitted application proposals will be evaluated and approved by Forum Nokia, Nokia Philippines and Globe based on the following criteria: Stickiness — an application’s ability to cause users to return to use it often as part of life’s routines; Relevance — applications that are locally relevant to the target audience, geographically and demographically; Uniqueness — applications that are not currently available in the Ovi Store; and Fun and Cool — which is self-explanatory.

If the proposal for an application is approved, qualified developers will be advised to create an Ovi Store Publisher Account.

Presentation of application proposal will be on March 15, April 1 and May 2. The applications should by then be functioning and installable on actual devices.

Publication of the applications on Nokia’s Ovi Store is on May 31 and at the myGlobe Free Apps for six months, making them available to Globe subscribers for free.

The mobile applications must pass the Ovi Store quality assurance process and the Globe fair use policy on mobile and broadband prior to publication.

For more information, log on to www.globelabs.com.ph.

$1000 awaits the winner! So what are you waiting for, go grab the opportunity now!

Nokia N950 Keeps Meego On Mobilephone Alive

Nokia CTO Rich Green made mention in his speech at the recently concluded Nokia’s Developer Day a successor of the highly regarded Nokia N900, the Nokia N950, a Meego running smartphone which gives a blip sign of life for the operating system.

No technical specifications mentioned on the speech but rumor has it that the phone will be getting an ARM Cortex 1.2 GHz processor, 12 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, New generation LED flash, 1GB of ROM and 768MB of RAM, 4inches CBD AMOLED screen and 190 million polygons per second gaming graphics.

I do hope the Nokia N950 could break some grounds when it comes later this year so the Operating System could fully take off. I would love to see the sleek User Interface of the early versions captured on video on a powerful hardware mastered Nokia device.

Well lets see how everything works out by then! Cross my finger!

Nokia C6-01's Price Starts To Drop!

Breaking news for mobilephone lovers in the Philippines! Nokia C6-01, my highly regarded and decreed number one mobilephone of 2010 made past its initial price offering and starts fitting to its prescribe price. From more than PhP18,000 in December, the phone now breeze along PhP14,400 in online shops and will continue to drop as I would predict to its original announced price of PhP12,000. This would mean that the poor to middle class geekonites like me would finally be able to own it as an upgrade to our highly abuse smartphones.

I will be putting my purchase on hold for awhile though because I will be receiving a trial Nokia C7 from Nokia Philippines but after my trial ends, I'll run over to the nearest Nokia Flagship store to buy either Nokia C6-01, C7 or if my budget permits, my long lust dream phone Nokia N8.

I'm really very excited because I miss smartphone connectivity life a lot. I sold all my smartphones from Nokia N82 my very first to Nokia 5233 my last internet capable phone to amass a budget which is at around PhP15,000 at the moment to buy either of the three. Believe it or not, I'm using a Nokia 1200 as a primary phone for a week now and a chinese dual SIM phone for my reloading business. I miss Gravity, Foursquare, Facebook, my eMail's on the go, my RSS feeds, downloading, installing and removing application via Ovi Store, Ovi Maps, taking pictures about anything, etc. Hopefully my trial device arrives as soon as possible to put an end to my suffering!

Price update for the rest of the mentioned phone, Nokia C7 hovers around PhP15,000 price point which I predict will be its resting price for the next 3-6 months while the Nokia N8 costs at around PhP21,400 and will dropped to PhP18,500 in a few months time, its resting price to die for.

Anyways, stay tuned for more price updates... let the waiting game begins!

How Nokia Could Remain Relevant In A Years Time

A lot of people were shocked when Nokia announce its partnership with Microsoft last February 11, a collaboration not only adopting Windows Mobile 7 as an operating system to add up to the present ecosystem but totally ditching out its long time partner Symbian in favor of the other in a year's time.

To be very honest, the scenario still doesn't sinked-in to me, why Nokia can afford to abandon something that made them who they are at the moment and why they cannot run and maintain several operating systems just like other manufacturers do and leave everything as it is.

We have a local famous precept here in my country wrote by our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal "Ang hindi lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan!" to translate, the person who doesn't look back and honor his/her past cannot achieve future success... I hope this doesn't come true for Nokia who would kill Symbian and betray its million of followers.

Given the scenario and the thousands of Nokia Symbian fanatics that feels abandoned, how could Nokia remain relevant when the time comes? Well, I'm not sure because of the current state of reasoning the company have at the moment, they would rather want to leave millions of Symbian users and gain a few in exchange so I couldn't see any relevance of the company in the future. They will loss the millions of hard Symbian fanatics they have at the moment if everything is unchanged.

I know they have already issued statement retracting the sudden death scenario of Symbian saying that developments will continue on a given period of time but would it be better if Nokia continues to develop Symbian and make it an elite proprietor Operating System? It wouldn't be Nokia's main weapon to battle against iOS or Android at the moment but its weapon in the future as they will let it evolve to become a sophisticated operating system of the future by hiring the best engineers and developers. It would be best to spent millions than loss millions of followers, the very people who would be willing to adopt windows mobile 7 for a breath of fresh air if treated significantly.

The Nokia and Microsoft partnership won't last forever being two different companies, there will come a point that both will separate and when that time comes at least Nokia will have something to fall back into. This will make them relevant in the coming years, to dream about the future while dwelling at the present and looking at the past as a guide.

PLDT myDSL Quick Preview

After a long and tedious year without internet connection in the house, I finally got a link to the world wild web via myDSL, Philippine Long Distance Company's primer Broadband Internet access. The company recently added a broadband service here in my area, progress that I have been watching closely since I lost my Smart Broadband connection last December of 2009 when we transferred to a house that was a dead zone. I got no other option since Globe Telecom also have no broadband service in the area.

Anyways, the set up that I got is the Plan 990 Bundle, unlimited internet, landline and watchpad under a 12 month lock up period. The DSL connection is up to 384kps as advertised, the landline as a norm is unlimited call province-wide while the watchpad is a service that allows users to watch TV online, chat with fellow watchpad users, blog and share files.

The myDSL speed so far was good enough like if compared to Globe's EDGE with my phone as a modem while against Smart Broadband, I would say its the same as far as I can remember but I'll try to compare them up with the office's SmartBro using Speedtest.com and gauge the difference.

How about the landline? I cannot appreciate it really because I got a mobilephone but lets see in the few days time how this "old" technology could work for me.

And the watchpad..?.. Well, at the moment, I have a problem in registering my account so I have no idea how it works. The system lead me to install a PC application so far, a watchpad application but I cannot log-in because I don't have an account set-up yet.

So there you go, few info's I can share o far. Lets see how everything works out in a weeks time. Stay tuned! Gotta surf, surf and surf!

Thoughts on the Nokia and Microsoft Merger

The Nokia and Microsoft merger comes with no surprise to me, before the big announcement yesterday, buzz have been flying around stating the inevitable. Well it all comes to fruition and there is no turning back for the ones mighty Nokia.

Thoughts on the current merger, this only proves how the company became so incapable from once upon a time, the leading company who drives innovation to presently a lame follower who cannot exist without the help of others.

Gone were the biggest research and development team in the industry harboring the biggest support fund, they have not delivered the best results and outcomes, they should be fired and burned with the rest of the top managers.

At the moment, Nokia had become just one of manufacturers in the industry, they have lost there individuality, they have lost there core and its all because of circumstances that would have been prevented. There is no distinction anymore, there is no difference and I hate it.

For the question as to if I would continue to support Windows Mobile 7 Powered Nokia device, its a big NO, I don't like the Operating System the moment it came out and I still don't like it now no matter how I would wanted to by watching tons of video samples.

What should Nokia do if I am on there toe, be aggressive, snatch all the best engineers and OS developers from other manufactures, offer them unparalleled salary and make them create the future Operating System of the industry. It's all about the money, nothing more, nothing less.

Nokia should aggressively develop Symbian to unimaginable scale, tons of supporters all over the world still believes in the operating system and adores it, Nokia must not let this people feel abandoned. Make it an elite OS, that if people hears about it in the future, they will think of Nokia and Nokia alone.

Well, enough of the rant, life goes on!

On The Other Side

Left, Right, Back or Front, I think my readers had known a lot of me having been a blogger “per se” for almost two years now. I have shared quite a lot of my geeky side and a bit of my personal and sensitive side (nope, not that!) but sensitive in a way that I get skin allergies every time a perfume of any kind hits me but that’s not what I want to share with you at the moment but this..

As CRAZY as it may seemed but I had a scary side of me that I refuse to embraced. Yes it’s as scary as the picture on the right, but try to figure these out! c”, Have you seen a floating black lady passing in front of you or seeing a person in front of you while eating only to find out that that person had been dead for a few days without me knowing or being kick hard by an unknown entity while sleeping in the middle of the night that I shouted hard waking up or your soul bring pulled away from you body to the point that you seeing flashing of light and wind passing in front of you and seeing your body sleeping in bed after all the commotion. Ridiculous!?

How about dreaming somebody’s death and relieving the experience, the pain they felt that time, the people who killed them, the places it happened, etc? Well it had been happening and I call it a dream inside a dream that every time I woke up, I trembled in fear that I’m afraid to sleep back. I even have a notebook before listing all the unusual names, places and events that I dreamed about but I never had the courage to check them if there real. I believe my sixth sense (?) was opened when I got a near death experience with that soul grabbing thingy.

It was one of the toughest part of my life because it almost consume me, my day to day activities were hampered because of lack of sleep, I cannot sleep in the dark because of fear that I might see weird stuffs, etc.

I can even say now that I’m not afraid of dying anymore because I experience death several times.

But that was long gone now because I promised myself not to dwell about it and deny that it’s happening no matter how real they are. Thanks to my ex GF’s mom, she was the one who told me to stop thinking and believing on it, that it doesn’t exist and must not exist because it will destroy my life. She was right, it doesn’t bother me much now and I’m very thankful for that.

If people would ask me if ghost or life after death was real, I would say No even if I know it’s real. I want to live a normal life and I deserve one.

You got to be kidding me? Its a big Joke? Hahaha, not!

Nokia E6-00 Showed Up, My Dream Form Factor?

Another unannounced Nokia phone made its way to the media via Engadget and it seemed real enough since it’s being confirmed by rumor muggers. Well, given that it’s real, will it be the phone factor that I dream about? I do hope so, I think I have waited long enough for the right form factor to come by from Nokia, the QWERTY touch that I have been campaigning for about a year now.

From the looks of it, the phone seems to carry a touch user interface having a VGA screen and a lock switch on the side, the soft keys on the side were also absent but I’m quite doubtful because of its smallish screen, it’s just as big as that of the Nokia E72 or E71. It would have been long confirmed if it has a bigger screen that can give a more workable touch user experience. Okay, given again that it is indeed touchscreen, will it be Symbian^3 or the luscious Meego? (Yum!)

The phone will have an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, Carl Zeiss mark is obviously not seen so it mean a regular camera lens. It would also have a monospeaker, a secondary camera in front and a unique camera case bulge back effect.

I suspect that this phone will be offered on the mid range market gunned for the PhP15,000-PhP16,000 price range. Nokia E6-00 is expected to shed its full specifications in the upcoming World Mobile Congress 2011. Cant Wait! c”,

One Charger For All Video Campaign, EU Commission Speaks Up

An estimated 500 million mobile phones are in use in the 27 EU Member States - and that number is growing every day, with a staggering number of makes and models available to choose from when buying a new phone.

The chargers that we use with our phones very often differ according to the manufacturer and model, however, with 30 different types of charger currently on the market.

How many times have we forgotten our chargers, found that our phone battery was running low and had to ask to borrow a charger from a friend or colleague with the same phone? Aside from being very inconvenient, the problem of having so many different types of charger is also incredibly bad for the environment.

The problem is that every time we change our phone we usually get a new charger, which leads to an enormous amount of unnecessary charger waste. Almost every household has a collection of old chargers - which currently generates more than 51 000 tonnes of electronic waste per year in the EU.

Seeing that this was a serious problem affecting both consumers and the environment, in March 2009 the EU Commission gave the mobile phone industry an ultimatum to voluntarily adopt common standards for chargers or be subject to mandatory EU legislation.

In June 2009, Europe's major mobile phone manufacturers agreed to adopt a universal charger for data-enabled mobile phones sold in the EU. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) - to date signed by 14 manufacturers - commits the industry to provide charger compatibility on the basis of the micro-USB connector.

In the first months of 2011, European consumers will be able to purchase a standard mobile phone charger for all data-enabled phones - including smartphones - sold in all 27 EU Member States.

So when we forget our chargers, we’ll soon be able to charge our mobile phones using the new common charger. In addition, when chargers are sold separately, we won’t need to buy a new charger with every new mobile phone.

Moreover, since the number of chargers will be reduced, the environmental impact will be positive. Reducing the number of chargers sold unnecessarily will substantially reduce electronic waste in the years ahead.

Good news for consumers and for the environment.

Northern Ireland Version - Promoting a short Italian film from Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Gabriele Muccino

PERONI NASTRO AZZURRO, in partnership with award winning Italian film director Gabriele Muccino, have created Senza Tempo. A short Italian film which focuses on Italian style, beauty and culture, the video works as a visual synopsis of the film itself.

Nokia 5233 Cluthed a Firmware Update

Nokia 5233 enjoyed a huge leap on its Firmware status from v.21.1.004 to v.40.1.003. The update promised to bring improved features and performance, better stability and updated applications.

So far I have seen few obvious changes like the integration of Ovi profile when adding contacts to the contacts bar, new ringtones, faster opening of applications, a more stable operating system like the elimination of time changes upon restarts, integration of web search option on the entry tab for web browser, addition of shorcuts for Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Youtube to the Bookmark Page, addition of Bing among the search providers and the elimination of Yahoo!
I will keep you posted on the official changelog soon.

Travel and Places Tuesday: Midway Luncheonnete

If you happen to pass by Initao, Misamis Oriental on the way to Cagayan De Oro City or Iligan, never miss this food heaven, the Midway Luncheonette along the National Highway. From the name itself, the restaurant is geographically located in between Cagayan De Oro City and Iligan City, just a few meters away from the Initao Forest Park.

The restaurant have been in existence for two decades now and because of this, they have manage to create sumptuous and delicious dishes like no other. I very much like there Balbacua and Nilagang Baka, they are perfectly cooked that they comes out voluptuously tender. There Balabacua had a unique smack that it doesn't taste quirky. You must also try there Kinilaw, it suites to taste.

And the price of there food? Competitive, its not expensive and its not rather cheap, but given the fact that the place is neat and clean, airconditioned and easily accessible, it adds a huge value to your money.

Tested and sealed, I give this restaurant a thumbs up! So the next time you cross the highway, think Midway! Whatever!
