Nokia N9 or Nokia Lumia 800? So similar yet different

If you were confuse which one to buy, then your part of the millions of people worldwide who were caught in the crossfire between two equally outstanding device both hardware-wise and software-wise with one running Meego operating system while the other, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

I myself was confuse at the moment and could not decide which one to pick yet but it’s inevitable that I have to choose only one because financially, I cannot afford both. To make things easier for me, I have jot down a few criteria to consider base on my use and preference, you might as well create your own or consider mine and my views. Read on!

1. Price – In whatever dilemma that comes up involving smartphones, my decision would always fall down to price and affordability that is why I made this my top criteria of choice. Come to think of it, how can I choose a phone that I cannot buy, it must be within the price that I can afford. Between the Nokia N9 and Lumia 800, N9 came out first so it will definitely enjoy the normal market price movement which is a mark down from its initial introductory price. But then, this remains to be seen as the world preps up for Lumia 800’s worldwide release. It might be offered lower than the Nokia N9 or higher. Until Lumia 800’s official local price gets known, these criteria remains unsettled for the time being.

2. User friendly interface –This includes the easy navigation throughout the system which includes the fastest mechanism to send SMS, to call, to surf the web and to socially connect. System must also have a clear and non-confusing mechanism of doing tasks, a fast rendition of touch commands among others. At the moment, the Nokia N9 satisfies this impressively with its 3 Panel system. I have not tried Windows Phone yet so I cannot comment about it making this criteria undecided for now, though I can see videos of the Windows Phone Mango's interface and find it to fiddly with its tasks mechanism of having to do more commands to be able to achieve what users want, I still have to personally try it because I might be wrong.

3. Multitasking - A huge area for me to consider since I'm a peerless multitasker when it comes to smartphone use. Mostly, I open 10 or more application at the same time so needless to say, I need a phone that can handle this easily. So far, Nokia N9 has an edge being designed encore as a true multitasking behemoth while Windows Mobile 7 just got its multitasking feature recently so it might not be as solid, smooth and effective as Meego.

4. Customizable - What I like most about Symbian is its limitless customization from themes, applications, wallpapers, etc., even to the point of changing the systems behavior and mechanism just for the heck of it. Call it geeky but yes, it’s an adventure worth trying, all for the sake of wanting to try something new at the same time wanting to different from the rest. Sad to say, both phones did not inherit the Symbian legacy, they are either less customizable or more restricted. My basis for whoever wins these criteria, whichever breaks loose the most, not literally meant of course.

5. Applications - The fourth of the most important criteria. The phone must have a lot of applications to install, and it’s not just any other filler applications, it must be with the most usable ones. As I mentioned on the customizable criteria, I love trying everything on my phone, well, it also applies here, I like to try all possible applications that I find interesting, then ditch and malign it afterwards on the blog, kidding aside but really, applications are like steers, it helps user's life more better and easier. The more apps you can choose, the more option you have to make your phone work for you.

If we do a mathematical count, Lumia 800 has the advantage over Meego having more apps on Windows Marketplace, very much logical since Windows Phone Operating System is older, but on the argument of whichever has more usable ones, that I need to assess when I get to try a Windows Phone device.

6. Media Unlimited - The phone must be able to support all the possible media files in the world for movies, music, eBooks among others. And it’s not just support; it must be able to play them flawlessly like no other can. Nokia N9 got what it takes less the .pdf reader, for Windows Phone, no comment yet.

7. Graphics and Effects - I want a phone that will woe friends and acquaintances with the coolest effects and graphics. Nokia N9 have them though but not much, while for Windows Phone, based on the videos I've seen so far, is also very much capable but I'm not sure which one has the most number of effects and which one implements it the coolest.

8. Games - So what makes Nokia the number one phone manufacturer for decades, it all started with Snakes. People were scrambling to get the phone years ago because they can play on it. Now, the battle of games on mobilephone continues. The phone that can handle the smoothest 3D graphics on the most number of HD games wins. Nokia N9 has a jest on smoothness and graphics rendition but I doubt if it can handle the count.

9. Support - The phone must be fully upgradable system-wise. It cannot be denied that Nokia is focusing much of its resources on the Windows Platform at the moment; this is equivalent to limitless support and future development while for Meego, the system is doomed to be axed. Though Nokia made a bold statement of support to Meego and Nokia N9 in 2 year or so, uncertainty still looms of its future. Nokia also argued that with the fast evolution of smartphones at the moment, a user can only take hold of its phone for two years, then after that, they will find another one. True, in a sense to a few with lots of money to spare but how about the rest of the majority? I myself would cling to my smartphone for as long as I can if I don’t have a budget for upgrade.

Well, I hope this blog post help you decide, as much as I want to give a definitive choice, I'm really can't, it would be unfair for Lumia 800 and Windows Phone as a whole, I need to try it first. Just keep posted.

Globe Business Postpaid Pre-Christmas Deal

Globe Telecom never fails to surprise me, this time around, there new business plan packages that were cheaper and more customizable than ever. I’ve just recently talked to one of their Care Specialist, Yam Antazo who shared with me some interesting tidbits, thanks for the information Yam, till next time.

First came first, Globe Business Starter Plan which could now be either of the following:

Calls:
a. Unli BLoop offered at PhP99.00 – this is a type of offer where users get unlimited calls between 5 other postpaid numbers enrolled in the business plan. Nothing new here since this had already been offered under personal postpaid accounts but this is the first time that they offered it to Business subscribers and first time to offer it within 5 enrolled lines.
b. Unli Call PhP299.00 – offered in the old business plan, this is a type of offer where users get unlimited call to Globe and TM subscribers.
c. Duo + Unli Call PhP499 – another new offer, where users get unlimited calls to Globe, TM and Landline within the same registered area, meaning unlimited landline calls within Metro Manila if you are registered in Metro Manila

Texts:
a. 300 text messages to all networks for PhP99.00 – a new offer where you get 300 FREE text messages to all networks.
b. Unli Text PhP199.00 – a new offer where users get unlimited text to Globe and TM, a very affordable offer.
c. Unli Text All P599.00 – where you get unlimited SMS to all networks, a personal postpaid plan add-on that can now be enjoyed by Business Plan subscribers.

Browsing: (Add-on)
a. 100MB for PhP99.00 – a new plan offer where you get 100MB of mobile browsing for just PhP99 pesos.
b. Unli Browsing for PhP999.00 – unlimited mobile browsing.

The new package does not include the PhP499 anymore (Unlimited Call to TM and Globe + 300 text messages to all network), but you can still avail it if you’re an existing subscriber but I was advice not to, instead they wants me to downgrade to Plan 299 and just avail the 300 text messages to all network package for PhP99.00 since they have the same service feature yet would only cost me PhP398 instead of PhP499, that’s PhP101 less than the previous. A huge savings here!

Handsets offered for the Business Starter Plan, a FREE Nokia C1-01 and Samsung Nari for any of the aforementioned packages not lesser than the Duo + Unli Call PhP499 and excluding the Browsing offers.

For the Business Value 999, similar to the past offer, users can enjoy, Unlimited Call and Text to Globe and TM and 60 minutes of local calls to other network. FREE handset offered in this plan package, the Nokia C1-01, Samsung Nari, Nokia 5250 and the Samsung B6500.

For Business Advantage 1499, again, very much similar to the old offer where users get to enjoy Unlimited Call and Text to Globe and TM, 120 minutes of local calls and 300local text to other networks. FREE handset offered, the Nokia C1-01, Samsung Nari, Nokia 5250, Samsung B6500, Nokia C6, Nokia C6-01, Samsung i5700 and the Nokia E6.

This is the best postpaid offer yet for anyone planning to own the candybar QWERTY touch and type power device, Nokia E6, my dream form factor. The device offers users the best of three worlds, fast and savvy touch user interface, the most refutable E-Series built and design and the best Business suite in the smartphone market.

For Business Executive 2499, like the old offer, users get to enjoy Unlimited Call and Text to Globe and TM, 120 minutes of local calls and 300 local texts to other networks and Unlimited mobile browsing, a more favorable plan for people who incorporate mobile internet to their lifestyle. FREE handset offered, the Nokia C1-01, Samsung Nari, Nokia 5250, Samsung B6500, Nokia C6, Nokia C6-01, Samsung i5700, Nokia E6, Nokia N8 and Samsung Nexus S.

And last but not the least, a new package, the Business Elite 3499 offering Unlimited Call and Text to Globe and TM, 240 minutes of local calls and 600 local texts to other networks, Unlimited mobile browsing and Unlimited WIFI internet access. The Unlimited WIFI internet is a WIFI hotspot feature using your phone, somewhat irrelevant actually since most of the phones now have applications that makes the phone a hotspot.

FREE handset offered, the Nokia C1-01, Samsung Nari, Nokia 5250, Samsung B6500, Nokia C6, Nokia C6-01, Samsung i5700, Nokia E6, Nokia N8, Samsung Nexus S, Nokia E7, Blackberry 9900, Blackberry Curve 8520, Blackberry V9300 and Blackberry V9780.

For existing Business Plan subscribers who were able to complete the 24month lock in period, you can avail for a loyalty reward program and one of them is an installment plan with zero interest on gadgets or devices they offer for 12 - 24months. My business plan ends in 3 months and I’m thinking of availing the said privilege, might be a phone (Nokia N9 or Nokia 800) or tablet (Apple iPad2 or any other tablet) depending on its availability.

If I hailed Sun Cellular Business Plan as the cheapest in the past article, yes it is at the moment with their unlimited offer for Call and Text for PhP350, but the PhP389 combination package of Globe, it is the best offer to serve my needs. At the moment I could say, Today Will I Go lang nang Go for Globe, but anything can happen in the next 3 months, competitors might come up with better offers and snatch my vote and the rest of my 7 subscribers under my Business plan, is Smart Communications and Sun Cellular up for the challenge?

Mobilephone Price Watch, Pre-Christmas 2011

Most of you where probably planning to buy something for yourself, friends or love ones for Christmas, well, if mobilephones is part of the list, then set your eyes here to find their current market price.

Lets start with the highly regarded and no less than the best mobilephone in the market for 2011, the Nokia N9. The cheapest store price you can find will be around PhP23,500 for the 16GB variant and PhP27,500 for the 64GB variant. Nokia N9 is also currently offered FREE at All-in Plan 3,500 and Unlimited Data Plan PhP2,000 on Smart Telecom. Nokia Flagship stores and eBay power sellers offers it a thousand more than the store price.

Of the Nokia phones currently sold in the market, the one year old Nokia N8, the current camera king comes next in the Nokia price hierarchy. The cheapest store price you can find will be around PhP17,500, merely the same to that of eBay.ph's power sellers. It is also currently offered FREE at All-in Plan 2,500 and Unlimited Data Plan PhP1,500 on Smart Telecom, Sun Cellular offers this FREE on Elite Plan 2,500, forget about Globe, they suck for not offering this phone in their line-up. Nokia Flagship stores offers it a thousand more than the store price.

Then came the E-series flagship, the Nokia E7. Even if it has a better specs and feature than that of the Nokia N8, the phone is currently being offered less, the cheapest store price is currently offered for PhP17,000, very much similar again to eBay.ph power sellers. The phone is FREE at All-in Plan 2500 and Unlimited Data Plan 3000 at Smart Telecom, Globe and Sun doesn't offer the phone. Nokia Flagship stores offers it a thousand more than the store price. I will flag this as the best buy among the phones, you will get more than what you pay for.

My dream form factor, QWERTY Capacitative Candy Bar, Nokia E6 is now being offered with the cheapest store price of PhP13,500. Globe Telecom offers this for FREE on Plan 2,499, this time around Smart and Sun sucks

Nokia 700, the most affordable Symbian Belle with 1Ghz processor is being sold in retail store the cheapest at around PhP13,700. No telecom offers yet for the phone. Well, if you want to experience a better and faster user interface in a pocket friendly pitch, then this is the perfect phone for you.

Then we have the Nokia Asha 303, another QWERTY Capacitative touch candybar phone, my dream phone factor, its currently being offered at around PhP6,450. If you want a fast, powerful yet affordable phone to satisfy your socially connected lifestyle, look no further.

Then the Dual SIM line ups that highly recommend, the Nokia 101, X1-01 and C2-01. All three with different market targets, C2-03 for the young and fashionable, price at PhP4,300, the Nokia X1-01 for the music oriented individuals, price at PhP1,870, then last but the least, my business phone, the Nokia 101 which cost at around PhP1430 on retail stores.

So there you go folks, pick one that best fits your lifestyle. Have a merry Nokia Christmas to all. Enjoy shopping!

Nokia Lumia 800's Popularity and Future Sales, Questioned!

News were cropping out recently about Nokia Lumia 800's, one predictive while the other definitive, but either way negative for the first Nokia running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Google Trend shows less interest on the phone while a market analyst gave it a cold shoulder predicting a low sales for the phone in the coming holiday season.

Well I thought the said report was negligently done because it just base its market prediction on Goggle Trends not knowing that a product sells not only by popularity but by other major factors. It just shows how amateur and untrusted this group is, very much expected since this group is unknown not until it created a buzz due to its immature findings.

With the popularity thing, I myself don't feature Lumia 800 much because I'm not happy with the way it turned out. I made mention this in my post Nokia World 2011 reaction, listing the Lumia line up to the frustrate group being mere lookalikes with Nokia Lumia 800 to the N9 and the Lumia 710 to the Nokia 603. I rant about Nokia's failure to come up with a hardware design that is unique for Lumia but other than my personal view, the rest of the critics find it very promising.

The phone is also offered on limited countries, 5 or more I believe so its really expected for it to be unknown to the rest of the world since the advertising effort is locally done. For instance, here in the Philippines, we don't have a local television commercial of the phone, how could it gain Goggle searches here?

To disprove further the analyst prediction, how come that in 5 initial countries where the phone was now being offered, initial sales and p re-orders were very positive. Did Goggle Trend showed this on their data? And also, could the result been tweak knowing that Goggle owns Android? Isn't it more questionable than the Nokia Lumia's p opularity?

Either way, Nokia still has to strive more to belie this hearsay further.

- First thing first, offer the phone further to more countries then do what it takes to promote the phone locally.
- Then they must court their hard core Symbian supporters to switch, they are not doing enough in this aspect because I myself was not convinced.
- Or better yet, release a high end Windows phone or tablet with a powerful specs and new feature to raise interest further. Its a psychological war in the smartphone space nowadays, people always think that the most high end spec phone is the best yet its definitely not, but just to satisfy this notion, Nokia must do it.

Further more, Nokia must not loose focus on their target to reclaim supremacy in the smartphone race, I believe there on the right track, there just not doing enough.

Nokia Asha 303 Now In Stores!

After its official announcement at Nokia World 2011 in London last October 26, 2011, Nokia beats my expectation for the first time as the Nokia Asha 303 starts to show up in mobilephone stores around the country less than a month after being announce. Its very unlikely from Nokia since mostly, their announce phones would be sold in two months or so, a welcome change for the market leader in mobilephone devices, hopefully they can do this to the rest of their announced devices and so forth.

The phones official store price, around PhP6,450, remarkably cheap for a phone with a great design and a powerful specs and feature. This will definitely goes to the my elite lists of highly recommended device, a great value for the money.

The Nokia Asha 303 is a stunning phone designed with sophisticated materials and metallic finishes. It combines a large 2.6 inches capacitive touch screen with a high quality QWERTY keypad. The Nokia Asha 303 is built with Internet and social networks ease in mind.

The device harnesses a powerful 1Ghz engine, 3G and WLAN to deliver a fast Internet experience. Social networks, email and IM are at the center of the experience, easily accessible from the homescreen. The Nokia Asha 303 is powered by the cloud-based Nokia Browser, which by compressing the web by up to 90%, provides higher speeds and a more affordable access to the Internet.

What Phone Will Be Best For The Elderly?

My colleagues knew about my tech hobby and most of the time, they come to me for advices about mobilephones, gadgets among other tech related problems in general but one question caught me off guard and its elderly related.

In the world of advance mobilephone technology, the apps and features that matters most where user interface, web connectivity, cloud storage, social interaction, camera, maps, browser, processor among others with less to no relevance at all to this age bracket of around 60 years or older. This market needs a mobilephone that would cater to their needs and wants but which phone is it?

Physical condition will definitely be the main concern, if I am to recommend a device; most of them would probably have physical or health problems like hearing difficulty, eyesight, slight memory loss among others. The best phone for the elderly must address this entire problem for them to fully utilize the technology.

Then comes, the users background, mobilephones had already been existing since 1950's, one way or another, majority of this respectable market group had use a mobilephone in their timeline and were probably familiar with it. They need to maintain such familiarity is vital in order for them to use the device to the fullest.

Usage, most of them would probably use one primary feature of the phone, majority of which will fall in line with either call or text. The best phone for the elderly has to be superb in both features. Durability, with the elderly being frisky reckless, they need a phone that is tough and cohesive, those phones that can withstand several drops or unintentional scrapes.

So given all these factors, what phone will emerge as the best phone for the elderly?

My first choice will be the Nokia 6303 Classic. For a phone with a simplistic design, elder people would definitely love it as it express formality and prime. It exudes matureness and respect much like what they represent in the society.

To address possible health problems like hearing impairment, the phone is remarkably loud and deep. I was quite surprise how loud the speaker of this phone was, very much like the Nokia 101 but more detailed with clearness and crispness. They would definitely hear all the warning tones that comes in and out of the device.

Eyesight, they might have difficulty in reading written marks or messages on the phone, with the Nokia 6303 with its 2.2 inches vibrant screen and the ability to magnify fonts, the phone will easily address this problem.

Slight memory loss, this problem could be address by familiarity to the User Interface and Operating System. With the phones Symbian S40 operating system who have been in existent for decades now, majority of our elders have used the system for quite some time and one way or another is very much familiar on how everything works. For non-Symbian users, the operating system is no less than the easiest in the market so there should be no problem learning this up hand.

Okay so call and SMS features, Symbian on Nokia 6303 has the easiest set up on the mobilephone world. Contacts can easily be configured; users can call anybody easily by shortcut mechanism and not to mention that the phone has a clear call receiver so they can clearly hear the conversation. SMS is also an easy task on the phone and like the call feature, the user can rely on the easy messaging mechanism that Symbian 40 implements,

Then last but not the least, the phones solid and compact structure with its steel cover to address unavoidable recklessness resulting to countless drops and scratches. Who would ever forget about the Nokia 6300 which implements the same body cover; it has been proven to have resisted the normal wear and tear of heavy usage.

My second choice would then be the Nokia 6700 Classic. It is more advance feature-wise than the 6303 but as I mentioned earlier, for what reason will this market use the rest of the feature?

Nokia 101, My New Business Phone

I've mentioned in my posts few days back about getting a Dual Sim phone to replace my signal stricken Cherry Mobile T9, well I finally got one, my very first Nokia Dual Sim as a reloader device, the Nokia 101.

If you may ask what this reloader device all about, well, we have here in the Philippines a Sim card that is capable of loading prepaid credits of another, we call it here a retailer Sim and being a retailer, you get to earn a percentage of the amount loaded earning you extra income. My Nokia 101 carries two retailer Sim cards of two of the biggest telecom network, Smart and Globe.

I'm suppose to be buying the Nokia X1-01, also a Dual Sim phone, but my sister already owns one so I thought of getting this instead to prevent possible mixed up or confusion in the future. Nokia 101 is also cheaper among other Nokia Dual SIM phones so it was the most preferable.

My first impression on the phone; its very handy, lightweight and feels solid to hold. I actually like its minimal and simplistic design, just adept to its basic mobilephone notion. The phone is covered with cheap plastic, scratch prone I would say so it needs a protective cover. The T9 keypad is rubberize plastic making it soft and pleasurable to click with a good tactile feedback. Its also well spaced making it perfect for texting.

But what I like the most so far is its signal strength, it catches signal more than any of my previous phones. There were areas in the house were I don't get signal, now its being covered by Nokia 101. The phone also had a good loudspeaker, I hardly miss any text or call with it.

Well, this will be it for now folks, catch my full review of the phone in a few days time. I will also be posting a hands on video of the phone, for the moment, enjoy this first few images of my new business phone.

Generation Awake: A fun way of promoting Resource Efficiency

I thought this video deserves a slot on the blog, European Commissions campaign to help save the environment by using paper bags instead of plastic.

Its time to wake up and start thinking about the place we all live in, think green!

Generation Awake, the movement launched today by the European Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potoènik and the Polish Environment Minister Andrzej Kraszewski in Warsaw, Poland, provides answers to everyday questions like the ones already mentioned and many more. Above all, this new initiative aims to arouse curiosity and encourage us all to change our behaviour by providing tips and promoting good ideas.

A public debate featuring Janez Potoènik, the Polish Environment Minister Andrzej Kraszewski, and representatives of NGOs and the private sector is organised in Warsaw. In his opening address at the Generation Awake Summit, Commissioner Potoènik appealed to “citizens everywhere in Europe to take the time to think before they consume. We all want to continue to enjoy life, now and in the future. And this is why we need to think about the impact of our choices on natural resources today. If you know it takes 140 litres of water to produce a cup of coffee, you’ll certainly enjoy every sip of it… won’t you?”

The launch event in Warsaw also features a stand where visitors will be given tips on sustainable cooking, fashion, and efficient energy use.

The campaign is part of the European Union’s strategy for a more resource-efficient European economy. Progress is being made - our water and air are significantly cleaner than they were a few decades ago, and more of Europe's nature is protected than ever before. The EU is now turning its attention to developing new policies to mobilise business, industry, and individual consumers.

The situation is clear: our future depends on how we use resources now

The way we use our natural resources every day is unsustainable in the long run. In fact some of them are already under considerable pressure today – think of fish stocks, wood, clean water, precious metals … If we don’t want these and other resources to run out in the future, they need to be used responsibly right now.

Today's world simply cannot create the growth it needs to accommodate the needs of 9 billion people by 2050. The kind of growth industrialised countries have had over the last two centuries is no longer possible. Demand for resources is rising, and the cheap supplies we have enjoyed for so long are dwindling. Resources will cost more.

Currently 200,000 people are being added to the world every day: 2 billion middle income earners in 'developing countries' are expected to triple their consumption by 2020. Today in the EU, we use 16 tonnes of materials per person per year, of which 6 tonnes become waste, with half going to landfill.

If we carry on using resources at the current rate, by 2050 we will need, on aggregate, the equivalent of more than two planets to sustain us. To grow successfully and be competitive under these conditions, companies and countries must use resources better and more efficiently.

Europe’s role

The European Commission has put into place a number of measures to tackle this problem. The Europe 2020 Flagship Initiative on Resource Efficiency attempts to incorporate resource-efficient strategies into all policy areas covered by the EU, providing for coherent targets and indicators.

Furthermore, in its Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe, the European Commission identifies the economic sectors that consume the most resources, and provides tools and indicators to help guide action for our future wellbeing. This Roadmap is an agenda for competitiveness and growth based on using fewer resources when we produce and consume goods, and creating business and job opportunities from activities such as recycling, better product design, materials substitution and eco-engineering.

The key words for resource efficiency are reduce, reuse, recycle, substitute and save. This implies using new materials, lighter materials, renewable materials and recycled materials. It means changing the ways we use them – and also the way we live: we need to limit waste, avoid overconsumption, protect and value biodiversity; use resources like water; minerals and wood sustainably, choose greener modes of transport solutions, and use energy efficiently. Not only will these choices benefit nature, but they will also improve people’s lives and even help them save money.

Get ready! This campaign is going to wake people up. Generation Awake will energise, excite and inspire people to embrace new ways of thinking, consuming and living. It’s a movement to make people aware that their choices can change their world and the planet.

The campaign is articulated around a central website and Facebook page, where people can learn more about their consumption habits, are encouraged to join ‘Generation Awake” and accept resource efficiency challenges, like reducing showering time to save water or using public transport once a week. New features will be added during the course of the campaign.

To learn more, visit www.generationawake.eu or www.facebook.com/GenerationAwake

Other launch events will also be organised this year in the Czech Republic, Hungary and the United Kingdom.

Nokia N9 Review: One and Only

So lets try a different approached in giving personal view on the Nokia N9, away from the usual hardware and software, in depth, above, below, whatsoever stuffs tech sites does about phones and gadgets, besides, the phone is one of a kind, so lets make it simpler, intelligible and distinct as possible.

I also intended to write my opinion on the phone, two weeks after I handed back my trial device so I would be able to give an appropriate view, far off from its bewitching foray.

Lets begin!

How good or bad was the phone?

Its impressive inside and out, you would really appreciate the phone like no other in the world. Everything is well contoured, well studied and well suited to make a person feel good about life, himself and the world around him. Sounds melodramatic but it celebrates human characteristic of wanting something simple, pleasurable, beautiful and useful.

All you need is Swipe to do all the things you need on a phone, its that simple. You wont need to tap a button nor open folders to find apps nor pinch back, home or whatever buttons on the screen for you to navigate, just swipe.

Pleasurable, since the phone was able to address human tactile instinct by engineering a curve glass display. The bulge on the middle counters the force that people normally exert when swiping thus creating a little friction, while the descending lope going to the ends makes the rest of the swipe act feel snappy and satisfying.

Beautiful, the AMOLED Screen with Clear Black Display, the deep black screen margins, the floating screen impression, the curve sides, the unibody polycarbonate cover, all this makes the phone beautiful and stylish to look at and hold. Feels very sturdy too. User Interface works beautifully as well, touch is very sensitive, swipe mechanism is fluid and the ardent implementation of live graphics is an allure to behold.

Useful, the phone has everything you need in a smartphone, you can surf the web with its very capable web browser that can open heavy websites with ease, you can navigate around the world via Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps, it has clear call reception without antenna problems or drop calls, you can do every possible messaging options currently existing, social connectivity is at its best via the updates panel so you wont need to open individual applications when visiting twitter or facebook, it has a capable 8MP Carl Ziess camera taking good casual still pictures and video, music player rendering the best Dolby surround sound, video player with all the possible formats you can find, 3D game capability with smooth graphics ceding, good battery life lasting a day with heavy use, two days when use lightly, etc. You will get everything you want with countless additional perks, not to mention that you can enjoy doing stuffs all at the same time because of the phones superb multitasking capability.

And the phone is not perfect rather, it also have some shortcomings that were currently being address via updates. For instance, the music player has no capacity to customize personal playlists but I believe this has already been address on the latest firmware update of the phone.

The phones virtual QWERTY is not on par with the best in the market but like the music playlist, this issue had already been address in the latest firmware where the SWYPE input mechanism had been added. SWYPE is no less than the best virtual input mechanism in the smartphone world.

The camera performance is sub par among the 8MP phones in the market but would be enhance in an upcoming update. Its far out from the images I took with my Nokia N8 but good enough for casual shooting.

The Meego operating system being new doesn't have many applications like the others and so users will have to deal with whats currently available. I'm very particular on applications and personal customization so this is huge set back on my part. But nonetheless, the transfer of QT base Symbian applications is in works, so it won't be long enough to see this apps working on Nokia N9. Then we also have Myriads Alien Dalvik that would allow Android apps to work on Meego, both systems are Linux base so it wouldn't be difficult to connect.

The phone also has a bland standby page, but knowing that Nokia had the Sleeping Screen for Symbian, it wouldn't be to long also for them port it to Nokia N9 and Meego.

The phones speaker is not loud enough, often than not, I missed a few text messages and calls because I did not notice the phone ringing on my pocket. Would it not the main reason why we have a mobilephones was for us to be contacted anytime, anywhere and in any given situation?

How was the phone compared to others? Does it have bragging rights?

To tell you frankly, even my iPhone freak friend envies it wishing that iPhone would look different one of this days, and it was the first time he appreciate a Nokia device that I trialed, a huge check mark for Nokia N9. Digging deeper on the User Interface, you wont never find a phone that is simpler to navigate than the Nokia N9 with its 3 panel implementation. Plus its something new and exciting for people who have been using iPhone or Androids because both phones have almost the same UI implementation. You will enjoy more than a bragging rights, Nokia N9 is fresh and its different.

Is it worth buying?

In the current world where everything looks and feels the same over and over, it would be great to find and own things that sets you apart from the rest. iPhone has been there for 5 years with great User Interface, Android is mimicking it to death that it did everything it can to be iPhone like, Symbian is trying to be like Android with its upcoming Belle, Windows Phone 7 can be found on several manufacturers, all this cycle is becoming irrelevant with differentiations becoming less and less germane, Nokia N9 cuts the cycle and thats why its worthy.

Buying a Nokia N9 is not an absurd endeavor as others would wanted it look like as Nokia pulls its plug on Meego in a matter of 5 years or so, its more like enjoying a wonderful technology thats comes ones in a lifetime.

Will I buy the phone?

Given the right budget, yes with all conviction. We are currently living a complicated life, I want everything else to be simple and fun.

The Adventures of Tintin - The Secret of the Unicorn

I missed this big time, the movie trailer of my favorite childhood hero Tintin had been on youTube more than a month now without me knowing.

I've been waiting for this movie from the day of its official announcement that its going to have big screen ramake. Now its less than a month more before the showing date and I'm very excited.

Needless to say, I was shocked to find out that it was a 3D animated movie, I thought it would be a regular movie with human actors but nonetheless, I will still be watching it. I haven't read the comic version of this particular adventure so the thrill to know it full hand is there.

The movie will be shown worldwide with varied showing dates starting December 2011.
