Trivia Question: What Movie Features Nokia Devices As The Only Phones Used By Movie Characters All Throughout?

No its not Robocop but somewhat related because it features bad ass robot/s kicking butts like its the end of the world!

The movie is no other than the Transformers 3, Dark Side of the Moon, that features 4 (on my count) new and hotly contested Nokia phones used by the main characters of the story. I might be wrong in the identification of some phones here or missed some, so the post open for scrutiny.

First up, Nokia E73 Mode (the worldwide named E72), the powerful business QWERTY smartphone which was used by Frances McDormand (Mearing) in calling people around. The phone perfectly fits her character; serious, stiff and stern like nothing can go wrong.

I was also able to site Nokia C6 white, the clever and fun Symbian^1 smartphone that is held by the sexy siren Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Carly), the movie's only breathing incandescent. The phone is a social monster which allows users to connect to every possible social networks around. Its equivocal to fun and connectivity and with the phones side curves, its synonymous to Carly's posture.

Then came the Nokia X7, the ultimate entertainment smartphone carried by the main character himself Sam Witwicky. The phone is menacingly attractive on the silverscreen with its 4 inch capacitative AMOLED and unique design. Its playful, mischievous and spirited like Shia LaBeouf.

Last but not the least, the phone that took the smartphone world by storm, Nokia N9, first stage disruptive device and the very first Meego running smartphone from Nokia carrying a luscious, savvy, unique and incredibly easy user interface. The device was carried by the a high profile government officer and was shown while the character was inside a limousine. What does this signify? Yup, disruption to the most powerful extend and on the top class caliber because after the conversation, the move to oust Autobots on earth was initiated.

As disturbing as it may seem but I was able to interpret the product placement like nobody have done. c", It's like what the hell was wrong with me? Hah! Well what do you expect from a tech freak.

My movie review is up next, stay tuned!

The Nokia N97 is just a bonus in here, imagine that for a goodie! Having availed the Business Starter Pack 7 months ago with a 24 month locked in period, I cannot take advantage of this plan offer yet. HTC Wildfire vs Nokia C6 vs Samsung Spica, A Midrange Fight

Time for another price match my dear readers, this time, three of the best touchscreen mobilephones in the mid range arena, HTC Wildfire, an Android Éclair powered device suited with an HTC Sense UI, the Nokia C6, a QWERTY slider Symbian^1 and the Samsung i5000 Spica, also another Android Éclair device.

Then again, I have to mention that my comparison is based only on the company’s given hardware and technical specifications and features and sample videos that can be seen in the web or in any video sharing sites. I have no hands on experience whatsoever on all of the aforementioned devices except for the Symbian^1 where I have trialed an N97 Mini that has the same Operating System to that of the C6.

Operating System: HTC Wildfire. I have been very vocal on this in my past few posts, I like the Sense UI (User Interface) of HTC plus the fact that it runs an Android 2.1 Éclair, a feature and graphic riched (3D wallpapers, multiple homescreen, etc.) operating system, that is why the Wildfire won without a sweat in this category. The Samsung Spica upon upgrade also runs an Android Éclair but it lacks the sassiness of the HTC Sense UI while the Nokia C6 has the solid Symbian^1 Operating System minus everything, so imagine that for a difference. Yes, the Symbian^1 was good OS, it’s just that Éclair is undeniably better.

Browser is part of the OS and the Wildfire has the best browser among the three having a multitouch pinch to zoom support and a faster loading time. The Spica lacks this feature on its browser even if it runs an Android Éclair, quite odd!

Outer Case: HTC Wildfire. Pitted in a midrange arena, all three phones have to be stuffed into a less expensive plastic structures but among the three phones, the HTC Wildfire and Nokia C6 was given a stripe of metal, Nokia C6 has a metal cover at the back of the screen protecting it from the sliding QWERTY while the Wildfire has a streak metal on the back cover. Given the fact the two tied in the robustness criteria, HTC won the accolade being the more attractive and solid one. The HTC device just looks fantastic on the outside, I would say a bit classy and clean while the Nokia C6 and Samsung Spica looks cheap.

Size and Dimension: HTC Wildfire. The Wildfire was the slimmest of them all with a dimension of 106.8 x 60.4 x 12mm, a huge difference to that of the Nokia C6 having a slider QWERTY beneath and Samsung Spica’s 115 x 57 x 13.2mm. I’m not saying that the thinner the phone is, the better it becomes, it’s just that the Wildfire perfectly fits any users grip. The Nokia C6 has a good dimension but the curve at the back of the phone makes it a bit uncomfortable which causes most slipping incident when used.

Display: Samsung Spica. The three phone have TFT screens with 16 million color resolution but Nokia C6 has a resistive screen while Wildfire and Spica were both capacitative. The Samsung Spica edge the Wildfire with its 320 x 480 pixel screen and dithered C6 by its capacitative capability. Though the C6 has the best screen pixel resolution between the three giving a crisp and clear screen but resistive touch is somewhere in the past nowadays.

Memory: HTC Wildfire. Call it small yet storagefull (just made up the word, haha!), but seriously the Wildfire has a more capable storage space having a 384MB Internal Storage with 512 MB of ROM while the Nokia C6 has 240MB Internal with 125RAM and Samsung Spica with 180MB Internal memory. The Nokia C6 is perhaps prone to freezing or crashed just like the N97 Mini due to its limited RAM while Spica has lots of memory full incident closing all its open application on the homescreen without a warning.

Connectivity: HTC Wildfire. They almost have the same connectivity feature, Quadband with GPRS, EDGE, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, microUSB, etc, except that Wildfire has faster 3G with HSDPA 7.2Mbps compared to the 3.2Mbps of the other two phones and has a Bluetooth 2.1 version. The Wildfire can also charge via USB so it adds up to convenience.

Camera: Nokia C6. Nokia C6 has a 5MP camera, autofocus and LED flash same to that of the HTC Desire but the later has no Secondary camera for Video call and can only shoot a 15fps video compared to C6’s 30fps. The Samsung Spica has a 3.2MP camera only with 15fps video capability and no secondary camera, C6 is a clear winner in this category.

Entertainment: Nokia C6. The phone is an entertainment prowess having to support all of the possible media files out there most importantly, DivX support which was recently rolled in beta stage for all Symbian^1 devices. (I have been wishing for this in the longest time on Nokia) Samsung Spica also has a DivX support but it doesn’t have a Radio and Flash Support so it failed to tie up with C6. HTC Wildfire like other high end HTC devices doesn’t seemed to care about Xvid and it’s a huge mistake on their part.

CPU: Samsung Spica. The runaway winner I would say having the fastest processor of them all, an 800Mhz compared to the 585Mhz Qualcomm MSM of Wildfire and the ARM 11 434Mhz of Nokia C6. Having the fastest processor doesn’t always mean that it is the fastest but as I compared the three, the Spica was a clear winner, no question.

Features: Nokia C6. The three phones have almost identical features except that Nokia C6 has a document viewer and a QWERTY keyboard. Having a mechanical QWERTY keyboard in a smallish 3.2 inches touchscreen device is just glorious having to experience the pleasure of typing SMS or eMail faster and easier. The document viewer is next to having a camera on a smartphone nowadays because people buy them due to the integration it brings, it’s the essence of owning one, eliminating this feature on Wildfire and Spica is unforgivable.

Battery Life: Samsung Spica. Another runaway winner here since the phone has a huge 1500mAh Li-Po battery that runs up to… (braise yourself!) 650 hours of standby time on 2G and 540hours on 3G. That would be double to the standby time of C6 and Wildfire! Utterly amazing, but needs to be tested if true. Anyways, it has the biggest power storage space so it might be.

Price: Nokia C6 and Samsung Spica. The two phone is currently being price at PhP13,400 in retail stores while the HTC Wildfire is a bit heftier on the PhP15,400 range. The three phones are higher by PhP1,000 if bought in their respective Flasghip stores.

Customer Support (Care Centers): Nokia C6 and Samsung Spica. Both phones have strategic Care Centers all over the country so I am assured that if anything happen to my device, I have somewhere near to bump into. Both also have ready to use accessories, parts and supplies to purge.

And the winner is… (Drum Roll!) It’s a 3 way tie! Cheers! Wow.. This is the most interesting match-up yet in the history of the blog. Three powerful devices in the same range with different strong and weak points, how crazy would that be? I have to admit, I was gasping with excitement when counting the scores because I graded them as independently as possible per category without tracking the scores as to which device leads and so on. All phones scored five each fairly and nobody edged nobody! It will now be up to the buyers if which category weights more to them. Harsh truth!

HTC Tattoo vs Nokia C6, Price Fight

A very interesting match up here, a far different devices verging only one common denominator, PRICE, as they are currently offered in the same selling point, PhP14,600 for the HTC Tattoo in any Globe Telecom Business Centers and Nokia C6 in any Nokia Flagship Stores around the country. Though I have to mention here that the Nokia C6 costs at around PhP13,400 outside Nokia Stores and Tattoo being exclusively sold by Globe Telecom and nowhere else.

Caution! My opinion is based only on the company’s given hardware, technical specifications, features and sample videos that can be seen in the web or in any video sharing sites. I have no hands on experience whatsoever on booth phones but I’m familiar with the Nokia C6’s UI having tried a Nokia N97 Mini device before.

Advantages against the disadvantage in every criterion mentioned and I will site winner in each. The most number of votes win!

Operating System: Android 1.6 Cup Cake vs Symbian Series 60 rel. 5 version 9.4

The HTC has a Sense UI (User Interface) on top of the Android 1.6 Cup Cake, meaning it has all the usable effects on top of the Android operating system. The 6 window active customizable homescreen with eye candy graphics brought about by the widgets on board, a single tap mechanism among other features giving a unique and satisfying experience.

The browser is very much part of this criteria having used proprietor web browsers from the Operating Systems. HTC tattoo uses an Android web browser supporting HTML and like any other Android phones, the phone has the ability to automatically adjust characters to fit the screen during zooming or changes in the screen dimension, which I very much like. But also tagged along was the rather clunky and slow interface which becomes unresponsive at times. Writing SMS is a nightmare on the tattoo especially on portrait mode, the virtual QWERTY keyboard is too small to use effectively.

The Nokia C6 on the other hand has the typical Nokia UI, the less customizable, two grid active homescreen mechanism with no 3D effects and double tap mechanism all throughout giving a bit less satisfying user experience. The browser was rather feature rich having WAP2.0x/HTML, HTML and RSS Feed support with Flash Lite 3.1 that allows youTube video watching directly from the website. It doesn’t support character adjustment unlike the Android but browsing is better on C6.

Overall, HTC offers a good impression but the Nokia C6 is more fluent and faster that’s why I choose it as the winner. I just could not stand with the lag of Tattoo in opening applications specially in writing text or SMS. Symbian is speed efficient giving a more holistic experience.

Cover

The HTC Tattoo has a compact design wrap around a solid plastic and very much customizable. Users can change the casing all they want having a removable case sled. The Nokia C6 on the other hand has a plastic outer cover but at the same time metal support giving it a more solid foundation and that is why I’m giving Nokia C6 the winning point in these criteria.

Size and Dimension

HTC Tattoo is wider having a 55.2mm width compared to the 53mm of the Nokia C6 but the later is longer with 113mm, thicker with 16.8mm against 14mm and heavier by 40 grams. The HTC Tattoo takes an easy win in these criteria.

Display

Both phones have a resistive touchscreen and an accelerator sensor for auto-rotate but they differ in screen size with Nokia C6’s 3.2 inches screen edging the 2.8 inches of the Tattoo and a 16million color display with 360x640 pixel over the 65Thou with 240x320 pixel of Tattoo citing C6 as the champ. The difference is very much noticeable especially in screen sharpness.

Memory

The HTC offers a 250MB with 516 ROM internal memory which means the phone is very much capable in handling multitasking while the C6 have 240MB to spare yet the later could handle multitasking more efficiently than the other. Both could support microSD card but C6 has a free 2GB memory on board while the Tattoo has none. With this info, the Nokia C6 wins having a UI that utilized less memory in all its applications.

Connectivity

The Nokia C6 is quad band in both GSM and HSDPA while HTC only offers 900/2100 band frequency for HSPDA. HTC Tattoo is faster on 3G connection which could reach up to 7.2Mbps against 3.6Mbps of C6 but on the GPRS and EDGE, C6 takes up a faster connection. Booth phones have WIFI b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. Given all this info, the C6 takes up the win.

Camera

No question here, with C6 having a 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash with the capability to take 30fps video against the 3.2MP camera with 15fps video capability of the Tattoo, Nokia C6 is on for another swift and easy win.

Entertainment

Both phones have merely the same feature except that the C6 has Flashlite 3.0 which could play youTube flawlessly directly from the website. HTC Tattoo has no flash player so it won’t play youTube videos. Lame! Nokia C6 wins, again!

CPU

The HTC Tattoo has a Qualcomm MSM 7225 528MHz processor against the ARM 11 434MHz of the C6 but the later reacts faster. It might be because the processor of the Tattoo is not enough to power an Android processor compared to the work efficient Symbian OS. Nokia C6 wins!

Features

The Nokia C6 have a social networking integration, have push email via Nokia Messaging, Maps with unlimited voice guidance support, Java support, Document viewer, mechanical QWERTY keyboard among others while the HTC Tattoo has Screen quick profile switcher and Voice Memo to boast, nothing much to be topple the competition so C6 wins handily.

Battery Life

HTC Tattoo has an 1100mAh Li-Po battery, 340hours of standby time and 6.5 hours of Talk time while the Nokia C6 have 1200mHz Li-Po power source, 384hours of standby time and 7 hours of Talk time. The C6 has bigger screen that takes up more power but the Tattoo also have a bigger processor that consumes power as well. Safest choice, the Nokia C6 with a clear difference on talk time and standby time.

Customer Support (Care Centers)

Nokia have strategic Care Centers all over the country so I am assured that if anything happen to my device, I have somewhere near to bump into. Nokia also have ready to use accessories, parts and supplies to purge so Nokia C6 wins.

The Scores:

HTC Tattoo = 2 point
Nokia C6 = 10 points

And the winner under a not very obvious victory swift… Nokia C6? Yes! via landslide. I just couldn’t understand why the HTC Tattoo is being priced same to that of the Nokia C6. It’s a mismatched, the phone is nothing more than a rag compared to C6. Calling Globe Telecom or HTC Philippines, I think it would be best if the Tattoo will be sold below PhP10,00 marked, more likely as a direct competitor to the 5530 XpressMusic. It might take a change of defeating it hands down.

Then again, a reminder to my readers, buying a phone must not only include a super savvy OS or a high pixel camera; it has to be everything, the after sales support, the price, usability among others. Go for the best value device that is worthy of your hard earned money, or rather enroll to a mental hospital. No Fuss!

Nokia C6, Power, Convergence, Steal

Of the entire Nokia phone currently being toss up in the market today, I could say that it’s the Nokia C6 that I am very much excited about. It’s not because it has a jaw dropping specs and features like most of the current top of the line smartphones but because it is the most converged and the best of the best value smartphone that is far more worthy than its price. Imagine a phone that has the same features and specs that of the Nokia N97, the top of the line Symbian Flagship phone of Nokia (cost at around PhP19-22,000 at the moment), with a more mature Operating System (less hangs, bugs), squeeze into a solid plastic and priced at around PhP13,400 only, who wouldn’t be thrilled with such combination?

I would say that it’s a dream come true for the not so rich mobile freaks like me because at all last, we could finally own a power phone that streamlines within the high end in feature and specs but won’t cost us a fortune. As far as I can remember, the Nokia N97 cost at about PhP27,000-30,000 when it was introduce, now we can enjoy an N97-like experience half the price to that of the aforementioned.

The Nokia C6 has the following features and specs to boast, QWERTY keyboard, 3.2 Inches touch resistive screen, 240MB Internal memory, WIFI, Bluetooth, 5MP Carl Zeiss camera with LED flash, Geotagging and Face Detection (absent on N97), ARM 11 434Mhz processor, A-GPS with a lifetime Walk and Drive Navigation, Flash Lite 3.1, Nokia Messaging among others, nothing much of a different from the specs found on the N97, even more better in some parts.

If I would be ask if I’ll buy this phone, yes I would and yes I’m very excited owning one, at least I can finally join the bunch of touch freaks who enjoys the most number of customizations and applications being the current hype, now I could be one with the crowd!

Nokia C6 On The Cutting Edge

Among the messaging phones that were presented by Nokia last April 13, by the way I received an invitation of the virtual event via DHL (Thank You!) but it arrived April 15th, it’s the Nokia C6 that shines best to me, not that it’s the only phone with sliding QWERTY form factor but it seemed that it’s one of the byproduct of my endearing wish list. As far as this blog is concern, I made a comment about Nokia coming up with sliding QWERTY keyboard’s that were distantly spaced (E75, Nokia N97 Mini) that it became a bit difficult to used specially in reaching middle keys, well they answered back with the C6 keyboard design by throbbing a closely compact buttons thus decreasing the gap in between. Though I haven’t tried using it, it seemed that it will increase typing comfort among users, Kudos Nokia! The idea of having a QWERTY keyboard was for faster typing; well this would definitely mark up the claim. I also like the idea of aligning the buttons to that of the screen; it doesn’t give a disorienting impression like that of the E75 where the screen is half width to that of the QWERTY keyboard.

I definitely like the phone design overall; it’s fairly attractive to gaze upon especially when the QWERTY is slide out. I also like the back cover design, brings a fresh look to the seemingly redundant Nokia back design where the camera lens were in the middle with the lens protector.

Most of my answered wish list was on the hood, the 250BM RAM that will boast further the phones multitasking capability, the 200MB Internal memory which will cover application installation, High Definition touchscreen display, full integration of Social Network applications, ESeries like messaging and email (integration of features between Nokia line up), N97 like customizable homescreen among others. The face and smile detection on the camera department is a welcome addition offering something new to the arena and I hope there were more that is yet to be announced.

Seven hours of talk time is a huge difference on mobile phones, mostly it could only last for 3 hours of talk time and so it’s a bold claim to make. The phone only have 1200mAh battery capacity, far fetch to that of the 1500mAh of N97’s but it last longer than the latter, the secret lies within the OS I think, it was designed to conserve energy efficiently.

Last but not the least and perhaps the most important shocker, the price, it will only be sold for PhP15,000 more or less, imagine how cheap that is considering the features and specs of the phone (better than the N97 flagship), its mind blowing! I would swear my witched neighbor dies if this phone wouldn’t sell by the millions, hah! Kidding! I could already imagine myself buying this phone by summer because of its affordability, tired of lusting for super expensive phones because many times, it end up to nothing because I can’t afford them. c”,

Nokia C6 will be in stores worldwide, second quarter of 2010.

Nokia Unleashed 3 New Social Networking And Messaging Phones

Nokia has announced three new handsets - the Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 - designed to put better messaging and social networking tools in the hands of more people around the world, at affordable prices. These new handsets feature full QWERTY keyboards, and enable access to a range of different email accounts, IM communities and social networks.

"Our messaging device range is very successful," said Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia's Head of Markets. "Services that provide easy access to the world's consumer and corporate email and instant messaging are really popular on our QWERTY smartphones such as the Nokia E71 and Nokia E63. People want the best messaging and social networking experience on an affordable device, whether it's sending a simple text or instant message, an email, or a direct message from their Twitter account. The Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 are made for just that."

The Nokia C3 is the first device to bring a full QWERTY keyboard to the world's most popular mobile phone platform - Series 40 - and is the first in the range to enable access to social networks directly on the homescreen. People can view, comment, update their status and share pictures to their favorite social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

At an estimated price of EUR 90, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia C3 also comes with Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat, meaning first time users can set up email and chat accounts straight from the device, without the need for a PC. Other notable features are the Wi-Fi connectivity, a two megapixel camera, rich color 2.4 inch screen and support for up to an 8GB memory card. The Nokia C3 is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2010 in a variety of appealing colors, including golden white, slate grey and hot pink.

The Nokia C6 is a Symbian-based smartphone combining the benefits of a 3.2 inch touch screen with a full slide out keyboard. The large screen provides a great Internet experience, as well as offering access to Facebook feeds directly on the homescreen. A full suite of email and social networking capabilities means the Nokia C6 is perfect for people who want to stay up to date while on the go.

Expected to be available in the second quarter of 2010 at an estimated price of EUR 220, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia C6 has an impressive feature set including a high quality five megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, and Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation. In addition, thousands of apps - from games and videos to news aggregators and web services - are available in the Ovi Store.

Rounding off the trio is the latest addition to the Nokia Eseries range, the Nokia E5. Designed for those that want to be productive in both their professional and personal lives, the Symbian-based Nokia E5 follows the successful blueprint of devices such as the Nokia E72 and Nokia E63. The Nokia E5 combines high quality business features with all of the personal networking and entertainment capabilities that a busy professional expects from a smartphone.

The Nokia E5 is perfect for managing busy schedules with a variety of productivity applications available in the Ovi Store. And with direct access to over 90 percent of the world's corporate email through Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, it's easy to keep in contact from anywhere.

Estimated price of the Nokia E5 is EUR 180, before taxes and subsidies, with expected availability in the third quarter of 2010.
