Top 10 Mobilephones of 2011

It’s time ladies and gentlemen for the dreaded yearly countdown of the Top 10 best mobilephones of the year. Last year was unexpected because my runaway winner is a mid-range device with a not so powerful specifications. What it has is the total packaging from being useful to being the most affordable without sacrificing to much features. You can read the blog post HERE.

So which phones will make it to the elite this year? Could it be as mentally challenging or emotionally disturbing just like last year? Read on…

10. Cheery Mobile Magnum HD

This is a living proof that high spec's phones should not be expensive and unreachable for the mass market. For just PhP15,600, you will get the following, 4.1 inches TFT WVGA Capacitive screen, Android Gingerbread, 1Ghz processor, 5.0 MP Camera with Flash, 720p HD Recording, WIFI among other specs that you can find in a PhP27,000 Android devices, but less the hardware of course being not so reliable with a possibility of a broken signal or a broken phone itself in 6 months or less. Ask the Cherry Mobile owners, they knew better.

9. Nokia E6

I have been very vocal about the phone being my dream form factor, QWERTY plus capacitive touchscreen, and up to now it still is but the problem with the phone was that, it doesn’t have the jest or the "buy me" factor that’s why it’s almost on the bottom of my list. First and foremost, the screen lacks the size that I would have wanted it to be, 2.46 inches is way off the normal screen size. It would have been better if it has the least 3.0 inches with a 360 x 640 pixels so it’s compatible to all applications for Symbian Anna. Secondly, it has a sub-par camera with its 8MP and Full Focus feature taking regular photos only, but nonetheless, it has a superior hardware cover, the best business apps in the market and the best value price. Nokia just have to add a few tweaks here and it will be perfect.

8. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S

If we talk about the looks, this phone is the runaway winner! It really look beautiful but holding the phone and using it speaks the other way around. It’s uncomfortable to use and Timescape User Interface (UI) on top of the Android Operating System is rather confusing than helpful. In fact among the Android phones, Sony Ericsson’s UI implementation is the most boring and unattractive. Have anyone even care to tell them that it’s the main reasons why they lag behind in the Android race? But nonetheless the phone has the following specs to brag about, 4.2inches LED-lit capacitive screen, 1.4Ghz SnapDragon Processor, 8MP autofocus camera with HD video recording, WIFI with DLNA among others. And it cost a fortune as well.

7. Motorola Droid RZAR

Yes it’s the RZAR branding alright, that’s why it made it to my Top 10 list. I never question the hardware of a Motorola phone, it will definitely last long unlike any Samsung devices. Motorola made it sure that the phone inherits the character that made the RZAR line-up famous a decade ago, thin dimension yet very solid. And rather, Motorola phones must be the only choice for anybody getting an Android device because it’s now own by Goggle and if there’s one company that Goggle favor in the future, it will be their own.

6. Nokia Lumia 800

This phone is indeed the first real challenge to the Apple iPhone and Androids because the fanboys did all it best to discredit the phones presence. Come to think of it, they belied the phones sale standing, they tried to inculcate the thought that it’s uninteresting and they want it to be dead before it gets even release worldwide, how stupid was that? Maybe they just can’t accept the fact that it’s better than iPhone when it comes to user experience and Android when it comes to system implementation. I’m not fully sold to the phone rather being a copycat to Nokia N9’s hardware design but I’m interested in getting one being very much talked about. Agree?

5. Samsung Galaxy Y S5360

The phone has the unreliable Samsung hardware that might broke after 6 months of use but hey, its is dead cheap for a device with the following specs and features, 3 inches capacitive touchscreen, 860Mhz ARM processor, Android Gingerbread, 2MP camera, WIFI among others. I call it the first touchscreen phone that is truly for the masses. But again as mentioned earlier, buy in your own risk.

4. Amazon Kindle Fire

Will it’s not a true phone in real sense but you can call anybody using the device via Skype or other social applications so its phone in technical sense. Confuse, I am too but it made it as far as number 4 on my best lists for the year. The baseline is of course the price being affordable but it gained more weight being technically good and feature-riched. It has the specs that most of the tablet costing PhP27,000 or more with only a quarter of its price. Just count the difference!

3. Apple iPad 2

That’s a tablet to, moron! But again it’s a phone base on my definition. So why the iPad2 then? Well among the tablet in the market at the moment, this device is no less than the crown jewel being unchallenged by let say Samsung Galaxy Tab or Acer Iconia or Blackberry Playbook when it comes to user experience and features and you know the most hilarious thing about these competing tablets? They are priced the same as that of the iPad2 even if they are less in everything else! How stupid was that?

2. Nokia Asha 303

The phone made it almost to the number one spot by simply becoming the phone that Nokia E6 should have been hardware-wise, a bigger screen and undoubtedly stylish. Its the phones hardware and form factor that made this phone outstanding and the specs and the price were just supporting attributes even though it only cost PhP6,400 and has the following features to brag about, capacitive touchscreen, I GHz of processor, 3.2MP camera, WIFI among others. It must be further improved by adding more size to the screen, like .4 inches more?

1. Nokia N9

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’m still bounded by the charm of Nokia N9 two months since my free trial with it ended. It just proved how alluring the phone is because it continuously hunt me with its enigma; the superior hardware, unibody design, curve glass display, the bright AMOLED screen with ClearBlack Display technology that makes the icons looks afloat, the three panel system that’s so easy to use, among others, it’s like a phone that was made almost to perfection, only that its running Meego, the Operating System that will cease to exist in two years’ time or more. But I don’t care if it does, as long as I get satisfaction I need when I’m using it. Would that be the best thing that matters most?

Comments and violent reactions are welcome.

PLDT Telpad and The Endless Possibilities

You’ve probably see the commercial of PLDT Telpad on TV showing bits of its features and I have to say it’s a pretty cool device with all things you can do with it from web browsing, to video calls and playing games like angry birds but what else can a regular user do with such a powerful device.

Here are more ways that you can use the AD-1000A Telpad:

1. Promote World Peace!

Yes, just like the most common answers of contestants in beauty contests, a Telpad user can take part on the greatest humanitarian cause with its ability to connect to any social network to have ever existed, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Multiply, etc., all this social mesh have existing applications on Android Market that a Telpad user can download, install and use via WIFI to spread the love and peace throughout humanity.

2. Learn in style.

PLDT AD-1000A Telpad is a substitute to all your reference needs. Say you’re a student that carries a bunch of more or less 1000 page books to school every day, what the Telpad can do is eliminate this tedious practice with its eBook feature.

E-books are digital publications, consisting of text, images, or both, and are readable on computers or other electronic devices. The Telpad’s E-book reader allows users to read books virtually in a book-like manner with the flipping page action or even better with its ability to highlight a portion or add a side note on the virtual page or zoom in or out the page to the user’s preference. With the Telpad’s 32GB of storage, users can save thousands of eBooks on it and will save them a bunch of weight to bring every day.

3. Teach interactively.

The device has a 7 inches TFT LCD capacitive screen that few people can picked into clearly all at the same time, all you need to do is download basic learning and educational tools and applications on Android market and ask people to set near you and teach them interactively with everything you want or better yet if you have a large audience, connect the device to a TV/Screen monitor via its HDMI port so a lot of people can see.

4. Explore creativity.

The device has a 4-point multi-touch screen, meaning, you can touch the screen with all of your four fingers all at the same time registering individual commands per finger, so how can this be related to creativity? Art, painting and anything artistry related, the device is capable of having this applications installed so you can sketch your way out to hearts content.

5. Experience movies and videos.

Love movies? Well I’m not going to tell you that the Telpad can let you watch movies because it’s given on the specs sheet that it supports .mp4, .avi, .flv and .mkv, instead I challenge you to create your own masterpiece and share it on Facebook or Youtube. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Telpad is capable of editing a video you’ve captured using your camcorder or mobilephone and make it into a movie that everyone could enjoy. You can find a lot of video editing apps on Android Market and it’s up to you to construct your storyline, plot, etc.

6. Conquer time.

Conquer time and not time conquer you. The Telpad can let you easily manage your time by organizing your daily schedules making it your personal virtual secretary. It will keep you posted with the reminders and To Do lists that you created for the day. Just choose the wide range of calendar and reminder application on the market that best suites you.

7. Love yourself.

Not in a deceitful way of course, but in a healthy way. The Telpad via the Android market offers you a wide range of applications to monitor your health. Weight, BMI, Blood pressure, Sugar, Exercise, these were just a few of the stuffs you can monitor using your device. A lot of apps also offer tips on how to improve your ways and means, personality, looks, etc.

And so much more…

As mentioned on my blog title, owning a PLDT Telpad has endless possibilities, you can do whatever you want or say whatever you say, you can even conquer the world with it, but which is which, always remember the moral lesson that the movie Spiderman partake, that with such power comes with great responsibility. Be responsible enough with your decisions and actions in using the device and most of all put God first above the rest.

Nokia Store Now Offers Paid Apps In The Philippines

After almost two years, Nokia Store finally offers paid applications to Filipino users.

Prices have now start appearing beside some applications on the list available for download. This is a welcome development because Filipinos can now use and enjoy the best premium application on the store without restriction unlike trial and free versions that are offered before. In addition, users are now also offered with bunch of new ones that were use to be limited to other countries being paid apps.

The prices were suited and adjusted for local consumption, like for instance, the best twitter client for Symbian, Gravity, the international price of the said app is $9.95 which is equivalent to PhP450.00 when converted with today's rate, the said app on Nokia Store only costs PhP150.00, thats PhP300.00 cheaper.

The mechanism of payment will be through operators bill, this would mean that purchases will charge be on top of your Globe, Smart or Sun Cellular bill if your into postpaid or be deducted to your load balance if your using a prepaid account. Quite handy I would say and you can monitor your downloads.

At the moment, I've purchase Gravity and planning to buy other apps for customization. You should also start browsing Nokia store as well and pick the best apps that could enhance your phones usability.

My Christmas Wishlist 2011

Its Christmas in this part of the world! Santa must have been very busy giving gifts around the globe, that if he did exists but true or not, everyone of us have personal wishlists for Christmas, things that we would have wanted to do, own or buy but far fetch. It wouldn't be a wishlist if you've already have it, right?

Anyways, here's a few on mine.

1. Vacation, local or international. Ever since I've been to law school, working two jobs with some sideline activities to earn more and hobbies to maintain like my blog, I haven't really had a chance to roam around, relax and enjoy. Life at the moment for me is very hectic, I need time to enjoy other things that I missed doing, like exploring new places, succumbed to adventure, lying on the beach among others.

2. Doing charity. Well, not that I'm inspired to do it because of the Sendong calamity that hit Iligan and Cagayan De Oro City but I have this notion that for once in awhile, I have to do things that matters to others and make a difference. I've been to a lot of charity works before but with zero to none organization that does these in the community where I'm at, I've been secluded for quite sometime. I think I should organize one here.

3. I wish I could buy a motor vehicle. Public transportation becomes arduous when time matters, like when I'm off to work or school or in just about any given situation.

4. DSLR Camera. Did I not mentioned on the blog before that I was just borrowing camera from my cousin to take better images for my mobilephone reviews. On many occasions, I have with me the 5MP camera monster, Nokia N82 back then, now I currently own the best cameraphone in the world, the Nokia N8, but nothing beats DSLR's yet when it comes to taking professional still images.

5. Tablet. When a cousin of mine showed me the best way to bring all her medicine books anywhere she goes and study it in a book like manner, I've decided right there and then that it would be high time for me to get a tablet because Law books were very tedious to bring anywhere I go being heavy and numerous. Question now is, what tablet will I be getting and will I be able to get eBook versions of my Law books.

The most viable candidate for me are the iPad2 and ZTE V9c being the only available tablet in Globe Telecom at the moment disqualifying all tabs from Samsung of course because they have reliability issues on all their products or I could get PLDT's Telpad being a myDSL subscriber. I don't really know why Nokia is not joining the tablet game anytime soon but one thing is for sure, there missing a lot of market opportunity with a notion that there not serious enough in fighting back to regain market leadership in the smart device space. I would have choose a Nokia tablet above the rest.

6. Mobilephone. My first choice would be... hmm? Nokia Lumia 800 being the most talk about phone in the Nokia line-up at the moment. I wish I could also talk about it on the blog like others does. I did not mention it being the best at the moment because its definitely not, I still prefer Nokia N9 being original design-wise with a remarkably easy user interface and Nokia N8 for camera features. Lumia 800 is just the future of Nokia on the Windows Phone turf and development in the short term will be focus on the partnership, nothing more.

7. Accessory. I wish I have the Nokia Essence Stereo headset for Christmas. I'm using my wired headset everyday when I travel and it becomes fiddly in any given situation with all the wires. Nokia Essence headset will definitely solve this problem.

8. Lottery. Honest to goodness, I wish I win one to solve all my financial problems. Yes, money cant buy happiness, but life would be so much easier if you're not worried about credit card bills, right?

9. Last but not the least... World peace, like what you hear often in beauty contest. Come to think of it, what if the world is a peaceful place to live in with people respecting one another and just enjoy life as it was meant to be, would it be better and more populous?

Editorial: After Sendong, Iligan City is hit by another disaster...

December 16, 2011, Friday, around midnight, storm Sendong hit Iligan City with devastating might leaving around 250 dead and counting, 400 missing and thousands of houses and property destroyed, now the city again is suffering another disaster, this time, brought about by "GREEDY" politicians.

A group of concern citizens from Ozamis City were very angry because they were scolded by a politicians wife for bringing there relief goods directly to the affected site for distribution without passing the relief center that was set-up by her husband. No matter how I see it, this politicians wife wants to control all the relief goods coming in and out of the City so they could distribute it themselves which in return of course would be advantageous to her husbands reputation and political standing because the calamity victims will think that it came from them.

How stupidly greedy was that! I never knew a person who is as greedy and wicked as this politicians wife because even in the midst of calamity, with people on the affected sites feeling cold, hungry and thirsty, they still think about themselves and their political position.

The group of concern citizens out of anguish, did not pursue the giving the relief goods, instead they went to Cagayan De Oro City and distribute it there, and we are not talking about few goods here, but trucks of them. The second batch of relief goods will again be brought to Cagayan De Oro tomorrow. Now eat that to your conscience mam. I hope your happy with what you did!

Gedda-Headz, First to offer in-app purchasing

Gedda-Headz, a popular social multiplayer game created by Frank Fitzek for Symbian 40, is one of the first game to use the in-app purchasing feature on the new Nokia Asha 303 phone.

Players of the game, also called Gedda-Headz, will be able to use in-app purchasing to change and upgrade their avatars. The new feature is being tested under a beta program. When fully implemented, it will let consumers pay via either credit cards or billing from more than 134 mobile operators worldwide.

As much as this new purchasing system brings convenience to users by offering easy access to application features, advantages weight more to developers since it will offer new opportunities for them to earn more. The new system will also bring huge improvements to applications being offered.

Nokia C2-00, Preview

Got a new device to tinker ladies and gentlemen, the Nokia C2-00 Easy Swap Dual Sim phone that I brought to replace my sold Nokia 101. I have nothing negative against the 101, in fact I'm very satisfied with it, its just that somebody took the interest to buy the phone more than the original price so I took the opportunity. It will also give me a chance to buy another Dual Sim phone to review and share about on the blog.

First impression, the silver white variant of the phone is of simplistic beauty. It doesn't have much aesthetics to make it look shiny and attractive but its minimalistic design make it a stand out. The phone is wrapped in plastic, a glossy one in front and a regular cheap battery cover at the back, even so, the phone still feels sturdy to hold. The plastic also made the phone lightweight and thin.

The T9 keypad was also covered with a glossy plastic, it feels comfortable to press and has a good tactile feedback but I preferred the rubber matted plastic on the Nokia 101. I'm not comfortable with the keypad design, its not segregated well enough like that of the 101 and the glossy plastic make it slippery to the thumb.

The phone runs the Symbian 40 6th Edition but unlike the past phone I've use with the same operating system (Nokia C2-03), it doesn't show the signal strength on the menu page or on any running application, making me wonder if I still have a signal when I'm writing SMS or when accessing SIM services for reloading, the Nokia 101 shows this all throughout making me regret my decision to sell it.

The phone doesn't sound as loud as the Nokia 101 or X1-01. The company have trimmed down this specific feature to give way to other important technical components that the aforementioned phones lacked like the VGA camera, Bluetooth, among others.

Well, this will be it for now. I will be featuring a video hands-on of the phone as will as a full review in the coming days. Stay tuned! For the meantime, enjoy the following images of my newest business phone. (For the complete Nokia C2-00 Specs, CLICK HERE)

Law 101: Forgery or Falsification? Know The Difference!

Normally, when we see people imitating signature of another, what comes to mind would be the word forgery, that the person is forging the signature of another, well, it’s not ladies and gentlemen, the Law defines the act as Falsification and not Forgery.

If you may ask when will Forgery be rightfully used?

According to Book 2, Title 4, Chapter 1 Section 1 of the Penal Code of the Philippines, the word Forgery can only be applied to counterfeiting the seal of the Government of the Philippine Islands, the signature or stamp of the Chief Executive (President) or when a person is counterfeiting treasury or bank notes on other documents payable to bearer.

This would mean that only when you imitate the signature of the President of the country, or counterfeit its seal or any bank notes or treasury bills that you be charge of Forgery, other than the aforementioned, the act is called falsification, but either way, you will be criminally liable, so never ever dare to do it.

So the next time you see people imitating the signature of another, call them falsifier and the act as falsifying.

Just so you know!

Parkmall, Cebu's Premier Shopping Hub

Cebu thrives further with the rise of another shopping mecca, the Parkmall located in Mandaue Reclamation Area, Manduae City, Cebu, just across the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Parkmall offers a modern style architecture matching peoples urban shopping lifestyle, gaming and entertainment wants and world class dining needs. Shop all you want with its variety of specialty stores from apparels, jewelries, books, electronics and accessories, health and beauty, home furnishings, grocery among other related services. Play from the child friendly Worlds of Fun to adult drew Casino and dine with the best local and international restaurants. Everything was almost here except that it doesn't have a movie house.

What I like about this mall, the parking lot, lesser crowd and goods were cheaper than SM or Ayala.

What I don't like about this mall, location, it's far from the city proper. Security also is a huge treat with the malls surroundings, it makes you feel uneasy. Worst, all the good and fun stuffs happen in nighttime here with all the local bands playing among others. As much as I want to stay longer, the more I feel disturb because I might get robbed when I go out of the mall late night, or something like that. But that was me, I maybe wrong with this impression.

Anyways, here are some of the malls outdoor view, enjoy!
